| YHA Ambleside | Whilst its location is superb, the hostel itself and its staff left a lot to be desired. Room keys/fobs to corridors didn't work and had to be reprogrammed. Two female members of staff were put in a room with a single bunk bed which would have meant one of us clambering up and down all night if there had been any issues, fortunately we managed to swap with a couple of students. The showers and toilets weren't particularly clean and the small lights and column plugs on the bunk beds didn't work, reported to reception but nothing was done. The breakfast each morning was lovely, however the group meals in an evening weren't particularly brilliant. Access with x2 minibuses was non-existant so parking had to be found in the public car park a few minutes walk away. Overall there are other YHA properties in the area so if we were to plan another trip to Cumbria, we would certainly to use an alternative hostel | 01 July 2024 | |

| Banham Zoo | Zoo times had been changed slightly and some sessions were not running due to issues with having enough Banham Zoo staff to run them. Some of the zoo seemed to be struggling for money and there were not as many animals as before with some empty cages, but the animals that were there were very close and the children loved seeing them. 2/3 zoo keeper talks were hard to hear, the vulture one was the best, though the children enjoyed the spider monkey one too. Behaviour was good and it was enjoyed by the chn, easy to keep them safe. 1 child did need a 2-1 ratio as per risk assessment as they needed to access the zoo at a different pace to others. | 30 June 2024 | |
