Kingswood Bembridge, Isle of Wight

Inspiring learning through outdoor education and adventure

Description

A trip to Kingswood is a life changing adventure. For over 35 years, our transformative school trips have encouraged primary and secondary school pupils to build confidence and resilience by taking on fun challenges.

Our Isle of Wight residential activity centre covers 100 acres of beautiful fields and woodlands in a superb cliff top location, overlooking Whitecliff Bay, with direct beach access. At its heart, the Isle of Wight centre’s five residential buildings – including an all-weather activity zone – border a tree-lined lane.

Surrounded by “Jurassic” coastline designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, this is the most important area of Europe for dinosaur fossils, making the Isle of Wight perfect for Environmental Field Studies.

Facilities
- Outdoors: Challenging on-land activities including a high-adrenaline ropes park, 3G swing, archery and side-by-side driving in our new buggies, plus bushcraft and orienteering
- Indoors: From climbing to fencing and a whole host of problem solving initiatives, plus an indoor swimming pool
- Watersports: An array of sea-based pursuits, from raft building to body boarding and kayaking
- Gift shop: Our on-site shops sell snacks and drinks, as well as postcards, souvenirs, games and mementos
- Other facilities: Diner, cinema room, social hubs, party leader lounges, indoor classroom spaces
- Security: boundary fencing, CCTV and coded security gates

Accommodation
The Isle of Wight has standard dormitory style accommodation. Rooms range from 4 to 12 bed dormitories, with gender-separated bathroom and shower facilities and party leader rooms close by. Adventure Lodges are also available for the ultimate adventure experience. Sheets, duvets and pillows are provided for all guests.

Great trip for enrichment and experiencing things that students wouldn't have before. Beach/ ferry etc. (July 2023 - Secondary School)

Food was disappointing and very limited menu choice. Duvets in camping lodge too thin and very cold at night. The activities were good but too long. The children had fun but it was felt that the experience was not as good as previous years. (June 2023 - Primary School)

The staff and facilities are very good and the children all had an amazing time. The amount of time given to eat could have been longer is the only real issue we had. (June 2023)

(May 2022 - Primary School)

Felt looked after and supported by the Kingswood staff. Activities were right for our group, and allowed a range of personalities to be met. The more confident ones able to push themselves, the less confident ones doing exactly the same activity not being as daring but still feeling they extended themselves. (March 2022 - Primary School)

(July 2021 - Primary School & Secondary School)

(October 2019 - Primary School)

All activities were carried out in a safe way. The staff were friendly, polite and coached the children in each activity. The children gained so much self-confidence and learnt to work together as a team. (September 2019 - Primary School)

(September 2019 - Primary School)

A wonderful experience for the children. There was a slight problem with the booking but this was rectified immediately. Children got to push themselves out of their comfort zone and feel what it might be like as a mountaineer. Good team buiding and problem solving activities too. Helpful, patient staff. (July 2019 - Primary School)

It has been better in the past. (June 2019 - Primary School)

The centre was poorly staffed and resourced, the centre was a disappointment with a number of things going wrong. (June 2019 - Primary School)

Very full the week we were there. Evening activity space was stretched and some venues not really comfortable for group size/activity. (April 2019 - Primary School)

Good site. Some problems with heating but this was sorted quickly. Food was reasonable, lack of fruit though which was disappointing. Activities led by instructors were great! (April 2019 - Secondary School)

There was a lack of hot water and a lack of response from the staff about this situation. There was poor communication between the staff and the school staff leading to issues with the food, e.g. children being given non-halal food when they had asked of it. They had an insufficient understanding of the children's needs and the training of staff were poor with in appropriate behaviour towards some of the school children. (January 2019 - Primary School)

Children had a great time. Accommodation clean and functional Adventure activities well run Facilities for evening sessions could do with reviewing - especially for the months when it is dark in the evenings (November 2018 - Primary School)
