Bletchley Park Trust

Home of the Codebreakers

Description

Bletchley Park, once the top-secret home of the World War Two Allied codebreaking, is now a vibrant heritage attraction, open to visitors daily. Perhaps most well known for the breaking of the Enigma cipher, thought to be unbreakable, it is a site of exceptional historical importance and innovation. It played a major role in World War Two, decrypting secret intelligence which had a direct and profound influence on the outcome of the conflict. We welcome schools, universities and other groups who can choose to take part in our popular and award-winning STEM-based learning programme.

The Bletchley Park staff were amazing and it was a very well-organised and informative facilitated trip. (February 2024)

The recent Bletchley Park trip provided an engaging and informative experience for our Key Stage 4 and 5 Computer Science students. The hands-on codebreaking workshop aligned perfectly with students' recent curriculum topics. Across year groups, students were enthusiastic about playing the role of WWII codebreakers. The interactive elements like using historically accurate tools helped students immerse themselves in the learning experience. Hands-on activities always resonate strongly with our students compared to passive listening (February 2024 - Secondary School)

School staff should bear in mind that this runs as a series of mini trips in a sense, because our group of 66 was split into 2 groups of 33 students to make it manageable for the Bletchley tour guides to take a group around on the D day tour. Our two groups did not spend the day together or doing activities at the same time. Also the outdoor tour was a little hampered by the weather. Ideally this should be a trip for the summer when the weather is likely to be dry. (December 2023)

The D-Day workshop was excellent and the pupils learnt a lot from what they were able to explore. Unfortunately, the current set up didn't allow our pupils to visit as many of the exhibitions as we would have liked. (June 2021 - Primary School)

(November 2020 - Secondary School)

Excellent (March 2020 - Secondary School)

(March 2020)

Bletchley Park delivered exactly what we hoped - An immersion into World War Britain, an understanding of the complexity of the codoes/ciphers used and operations undertaken as a result, the engineering required to construct a machine that was capable of managing those numbers/permutations/combinations (we're talking in the trillions) and what is essential the birth of the CPU/ALU. From the workshops, to the tour, to the D-Day experience and our self-guided adventures, we got to touch, "taste" and feel what it was like to live breath Bletchley Park as the 9000 or so did and the height of its operation. (February 2020 - Secondary School)

The educational day was really good. Slightly too rigid and not enough self-guided time alloted though. (January 2020 - Secondary School)

The trip was an outstanding success. The children had an amazing time and the staff there were absolutely fantastic. They kitted the children out with free audio-guides and the self-guided nature meant the students were able to enjoy all aspects of the site. Will definitely be going again! February 2022 - Secondary School
Fantastic place to visit, staff, facilities, workshop, guided tour...it is all just fantastic.

January 2022 - Secondary School

The trip ran smoothly and was well organised

June 2021 - Secondary School
A well organised day with lots to do.

June 2021 - Primary School
The D-Day workshop was excellent and the pupils learnt a lot from what they were able to explore. Unfortunately, the current set up didn't allow our pupils to visit as many of the exhibitions as we would have liked.

January 2021 - Primary School
Very well organised and flexible, especially considering the current COVID-19 situation.

November 2020 - Secondary School

March 2020 - Secondary School
Excellent

March 2020

February 2020 - Secondary School
Bletchley Park delivered exactly what we hoped - An immersion into World War Britain, an understanding of the complexity of the codoes/ciphers used and operations undertaken as a result, the engineering required to construct a machine that was capable of managing those numbers/permutations/combinations (we're talking in the trillions) and what is essential the birth of the CPU/ALU. From the workshops, to the tour, to the D-Day experience and our self-guided adventures, we got to touch, "taste" and feel what it was like to live breath Bletchley Park as the 9000 or so did and the height of its operation.

January 2020 - Secondary School
The educational day was really good. Slightly too rigid and not enough self-guided time alloted though.

January 2020 - Secondary School
Very organised and accomodating

April 2019 - Primary School
Really enjoyable day out for all - pupils loved learning about the code breaking during WW2.

March 2019 - Secondary School
The trip was an outstanding success. The children had an amazing time and the staff there were absolutely fantastic. They kitted the children out with free audio-guides and the self-guided nature meant the students were able to enjoy all aspects of the site. Will definitely be going again!
