Fantastic! (December 2019 - Secondary - Post No: 18196 )

Excellent resources, especially when learning about fossils in Britain and people that we associate with fossils in UK - Mary Anning, Charles Darwin. Great exhibitions, children really enjoyed it. For future reference, it would be even better if we have booked the workshop, however these need to be booked in advance (at least couple of months before). Lunch hall was booked but 1.00 pm - this was late for the children, next time preferred time 12.00 (December 2019 - Primary - Post No: 18187 )

The workshop on Teeth was great, as was the workshop in the Investigate Centre where the children got the opportunity to act like scientists and explore some of the museum's specimens. (December 2019 - Primary - Post No: 18124 )

Amazing venue, pupils said it was the best museum they had ever been to. (November 2019 - Primary - Post No: 17403 )

Excellent museum but our planning did not make use of the workshops/activities on offer which needs to be booked ahead of time. (October 2019 - Secondary - Post No: 17102 )

The Natural History Museum is a wonderful place to learn about the World. We use the museum often and every time we learn something new. It is well supervised and the displays and objects have helped push our learning forwards. (October 2019 - Primary - Post No: 16563 )

It was very busy in the education area on the lower floor and it was difficult to accommodate our school amongst the others. However the museum was a wonderful place to explore. Due to the traffic we were a little late so some classes missed out on their activities that had been booked. The museum did not have the capacity or resources to change anything for us. Traffic and timings will always be an issue for schools that are not in the vicinity therefore a contingency plan would be appreciated by teachers. The museum is fantastic for hands on activities and the staff walking round with artifacts were brilliant with the children. (September 2019 - Primary - Post No: 16230 )

It offers a lot considering it is free. The exhibitions are not particularly thrilling, but there are plenty of interactive elements for students to engage with and there is a designated school eating area, which is very useful. There is also a huge variety of exhibits. (July 2019 - Post No: 15296 )

Another excellent place to take the children, although they were very tired by this time. Some children would have enjoyed spending longer there as they were able to engage more with the exhibits. Other children of lower ability struggled to maintain interest. (June 2019 - Secondary - Post No: 13804 )

Great day, transport on tube very easy. Exhibition on minibeasts was great, workshop in the garden was thoroughly enjoyable and the lady running the session was really enthusiastic and informative. Future note - leave the museum by 2 to be back in time for the end of the day. (June 2019 - Primary - Post No: 13135 )

It brings what could potentially be quite a dry area of science to life. A highlight for us was seeing the actual Icthyosaur Mary Anning discovered in the 1800s - we wrote newpaper reports about the discovery! The children loved seeing the evolution of humans also, and began to understand the importance of fossils in understanding evolution. (April 2019 - Primary - Post No: 11209 )

Excellent museum and knowledgeable staff. Discover guide was very good and well worth buying. The only negative was that they didn't have water taps which students could use to refill bottles. This was disappointing - there was one but it was a faint dribble and considering they often have 1400 students in a day - insufficient. (November 2018 - Secondary - Post No: 7786 )

The Natural History Museum is a good place to take a year 1 class and lots of the exhibits and signs were well tailored to the children's needs and age. However, I was less impressed by the quality of the activities/workshops organised by the Natural History Museum schools team. Our 'Explorers and Other Animals' activity was simple to book, but upon our arrival, I was informed that our activity had been cancelled due to a lost key for the resource cupboard. I was disappointed by the disorganised nature of the school dining area; we were kept waiting for at least 15 minutes before we could be assisted by a member of staff and could be allocated a place to put our bags. Overall, the layout of the schools area and museum is perhaps best suited to older children. (December 2017 - Primary - Post No: 388 )
