| JCA Condover Hall | An excellent weekend full of netball, plenty of activity for the pupils and lots of independence for them. Enjoyable meet up of Trust schools and seeing other Trust staff. | Stonehenge | We took part in the Neolithic Life sessions which were very well organised. We were met in the car park by a guide and led to the Education Room. The girls took part in various activities, mapping out the landscape, working how the stones were moved and dressing up in Stone Age- to Bronze Age costumes and handling artefacts. They then presented their findings to the class. Next they went out side and had a go at hazel wattle and daub fence building and weaving reed bracelets. Lastly we went into a reconstructed wattle and daub hut and ground flour and discussed daily life. The guides were excellent and really encouraging. In the afternoon we toured around the stones. | West Lodge Farm Park | Our requests were met perfectly by the farm. Space was tight for a 4 form entry school so we had lunch in 2 sittings... 30 mins was not long enough with taking off muddy boots and coats etc, so I would consider a longer lunch slot next time for us personally. The children had a fantastic day and lots of spontaneous learning occurred, some children didn't know a chick came from an egg so it was fab to see it first hand. We were able to experience feeding lots of different animals and built in the need for hand washing and personal hygiene as an added bonus. When asked about their favourite part of the day the children commented on feeding the animals, the pig race at the end, the den building and the lamb feeding. We weren't able to go on the tractor ride as it was too muddy, but this didn't detract from the fun of the day! | 09 March 2020 |
