Positive feedback for the venue: great customer service and friendly staff who wanted to be helpful, space to lock away bags/lunches etc worked well. The welcome talk was useful and delivered appropriately. The materials workshop was fun and engaging for Y1. To improve for next time: The itinerary we were given was too tight in the timings and didn’t allow for anything else (e.g. no time given for 60 year 1 children to go to the toilet twice a day), there was not enough time to see the 4 areas due to going back to the café area for lunch in the middle. One slot of 60 minutes and a later lunch would have been much more beneficial than 2x 30 minute slots due to the distance involved in walking to the different areas at Magna. The workshop was very engaging but it was too long for Year 1 children to sit and watch. It would have been better to have a shorter workshop, timetabled toilet stops and more time playing outside (some children only got 5 minutes or less). (May 2023 - Primary School)

I feel as though this venue would have been more beneficial to children if they had a tour guide and somebody who worked there talking them through different parts as they walked round. It was very chaotic with numerous schools running round at once. We were meant to do a workshop which was booked and then cancelled by Magna staff without consenting the school so this made our trip not worthwhile as we had travelled a long way. The children has an excellent and enriching day. The only thing that I feel was lacking was Magna staff around the pavilions to help guide scientific thinking. Definitely somewhere that I would take the school to again. (June 2022 - Primary School)

There were issues with the event regarding health and safety unfortunately. The main picnic area was the only place upstairs, which led straight on to the open area containing the furnis etc. The area was not manned initially, and a student had broken the door leading on to this area. Loads of students heard about this and got into the area (which could have been potentially very dangerous). I feel a more suitable area for picnics could be planned. Also, when I asked the member of staff on arrival where I could tell my students where I would be if they needed me - they told me to tell them a name of a café that was not then seen anywhere! This caused great confusion. Could I suggest that this information could be sent out prior to the date (as all other communication has been fantastic) so I could inform my students on the coach before entering the venue. A map emailed beforehand would also be helpful. Staff could then photocopy for their students. The ladies I spoke to in orange tops were helpful and shut down the dangerous picnic room. Thanks. A fantastic event with hundreds of stalls advertising a multitude of careers. Students could interact with technology and engineering equipment. Gain knowledge on skill sets required for different aspects within certain careers. Perhaps next time a little more time is required to see everything as it was extremely busy and lots was missed. The trip was very successful for a number of reasons. The centre itself has lots to see and do and the quizzes provided beforehand were invaluable tools to keep the children engaged and focus their learning. The four different zones ensured a breadth of knowledge was covered. The workshop was well-led and the children were highly engaged. Many of the activities had been covered beforehand in class. It might have been useful to have more detailed scientific explanations during the workshop or even further learning challenges to be completed back in the classroom. (This is just a suggestion). Excellent workshops and activities for the children to complete. The museum was very busy on the day that we attended but staff were well prepared for this and there were very good systems in place. A criticism might be that we waited for 'The Big Burn' exhibition to begin. It was listed as starting at 11 o'clock but after a ten minute wait nothing happened.
