Discover the World Ltd | | Iceland trip reflections/ feedback
Forms sent out to staff and student participants for feedback are overwhelmingly positive!
Medical-
Staff took responsibility for own small groups and checked on medication provision; no issues at airport. All meds returned to students for return flight and parents collected them from airport.
6 students vomited and rehydration gatorade and salt rehydration treatments were offered.
All students need to be clear about how to contact staff at night if needed- staff room numbers were shared with students (group B)
Dietary and Alergies
No epipen emergency occurred.
Play flight attendant gave clear notification to passengers on both flights- helpful and important.
Dietary needs and requests were met by all guesthouses but we rather basic.
Concern as both guesthouses had peanut butter on breakfast table until Hastings staff requested they removed it urgently.
Educational visits
ALL EXCELLENT especially Glacier walk
Next time try to also include Lava Show- highly recommended by guide Marta
Food
Lunches-
Good evening meals
Good sandwiches were made by students however some flagged as too basic
Accommodation
Some confusion with group A room student room allocations in both venues and this was challenging to organise after later night arrial. (Check what went wrong here with Discover)
Guesthouse was very kind to wash clothes of sick students
Clean and warm and excellent
Guide and Driver
All very good and professional raport with students.
Flights
Play- seat allocations better on return but airport check in was very busy. Flight attendants gave passenger announcement to reduce allergy risk. Luggage handlers left one student bag back in Madrid and other broke wheel on student case- claims being made.
Phones review for 6th form- nokia substitute for emergency?
Communications with parents-
Descriptions for parent comms each day were difficult to write after long study days – good to write theses in advance.
Taking students pones at night worked well but some disgruntlement form yr 13/12 in A group.
Reminder for next time to tell students not to overpack- sme brought too much luggage…however some brought too little (hats, gloved)- we e were lucky with weather but it could have been a big risk as some students were not in warm enough clothes for greater cold conditions! Remember to encourage students not to buy more new clothing- encourage sharing pre trip.
Not to consider next trip- Yr 10s with older student were subject to diff expectations- this was sometimes hard to manage by older students in group A

Mendip Activity Centre | | Absolutely amazing venue. We undertook Archery and went for an uphill walk (showed how unfit I was!) for some very engaging/interactive activities enjoyed by all students. Skills used were teamwork and leadership. Helped with memory retention and thinking on one's feet. We also had a lot of laughs. Check out their website and make up your own mind. A great day out! | 11 November 2022 |
