Description
BXM Expeditions was founded by Ben Maxfield, once a DofE manager, teacher and mountaineer and now a consultant and advisor. Ben is passionate about young people being able to access the outdoors regardless of their geographical location, their background, financial or emotional situation.
Our vision was to change the overpriced outdoor market for young people to make it more accessible and affordable for everyone to get in to the outdoors safely. With a passion for delivering the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, we’re able to price ourselves at the lower end of the market, but be at the top of our field for safety, expert knowledge and value for money.
Today BXM Expeditions is one of the largest expedition companies in the UK and BXM still runs in the same way with the same ethos and values, with over 80 instructors. BXM is the UK’s leading company in its field working with schools from all over the country and running expeditions all over Britain from Scotland to the South Coast.

Ensure that the team are briefed that they need to help with the quieting of pupils and get involved with the expeditions having contact with them during the day. Ensure that individuals place their bags onto the transport to prevent leaving them at school. (October 2023 - Secondary School)
Tendency to cut the required DofE day short (eg allow students to do 6 hours instead of 7 on a Silver). Do not always provide all the equipment they say they will eg fire extinguisher, safe stove lighters. Some of their freelance staff are excellent but some are inexperienced. BXM have been very supportive. A student from another school tested positive and this meant the BXM had to self isolate so the expedition had to be cancelled (June 2021 - Secondary School)

I felt very confident with BXM taking charge of the practice training. there was an individual trainer for each of the groups and they were well equipt and very professional in their approach.
