Dynamic Earth

Your World of Incredible Learning Experiences Starts Here!

Description

Situated in the heart of Edinburgh, at the foot of an ancient volcano, Dynamic Earth is the only centre of its kind dedicated to telling the story of planet Earth.

Travel back to the beginning of time in our Deep Time Machine and witness the big bang first hand. Rocket through the universe in a spaceship travelling billions of times faster than the speed of light and see stars explode on the other side of the galaxy. Feel the ground shudder as molten lava speeds straight towards you and volcanoes throw clouds of ash into the sky. From dry tundra to the bottom of the ocean, a journey through Dynamic Earth is exciting, fun and engaging. Whether coming face to face with an extinct dinosaur, feeling the sticky heat of a tropical rainforest or flying over glaciers in prehistoric Scotland, Dynamic Earth presents all aspects of the planet we live in. We even have a real one Iceberg in our Polar Gallery, sitting beneath the magical Aurora Borealis!

A charitable trust, with an education programme core to its mission, the Dynamic Earth experience is linked intrinsically to UK school curriculums and is delivered by highly qualified science communication professionals and experienced outdoor leaders. Interdisciplinary workshops, both indoors and out, are supported by 14 immersive, multisensory galleries and our 360' ShowDome cinema, presenting state of the art and dramatic, curriculum linked films.

A visit to Dynamic Earth is like nothing else on Earth. It’s a chance to experience the primeval forces of nature as they shaped our planet, by journeying through space and time, and around the world. You’ll be embarking on the interactive adventure of a lifetime - the lifetime of our planet.

(July 2019 - Primary School)

My class enjoyed the workshop which was engaging and appropriately pitched for the level. The educators were very good - enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very good with the children. The class thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the galleries although I felt the science information was pitched too high. I downloaded the pupil booklet in advance and used some of the activities but again these were pitched too high for the level (P3/4) and I wouldn't use again. (June 2019 - Primary School)
