A great place to visit to enhance knowledge and understanding of WWII. Real life artefacts which the children can get up close to. Well lay out and everything is easily accessible. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Great facilities for schools (lunch room & toilets) and the added bonus of seeing real planes take off! (October 2024 - Primary School)

Our Visit to Imperial War Museum Duxford enhanced our History topic work on WWII. The children were able to see & experience first hand artefacts from this period of time such as the tanks used in land warfare, aircraft such as the Spitfires and Hawker Hurricanes, Anderson Shelters etc and much, much more. We attended this visit to extend our History topic on WW2. The children had the opportunity to see planes, vehicles, weapons and uniforms used in the World Wars. The interactive elements were superb and the Battle of Britain exhibition in particular was highly educational and informative. (July 2023)

Duxford made us so welcome and were so well prepared for school groups, it's a great place to do a trip. If you've never been I recommend going yourself first so you can plan the day effectively as there's a lot to squeeze in! (July 2023 - Secondary School)

Fantastic free day out (self led tour...pre-planning trip which is also free, is essential). Well organised and friendly staff. So much to see; you can easily fill a day. Lots of walking, so sensible shoes are a must. Shop is very expensive and doesn't have the usual array of reasonably priced items that appeal to children. (May 2023 - Primary School)

The children were full of awe and wonder at all of the aircraft and war-related vehicles, weapons, etc. It was wonderful to see their reaction and fascination at all that was on display. They clearly linked what they had been learning about in the classroom and experienced that learning coming to life. It was especially exciting for them to see (and hear!) a Spitfire taking off and flying overhead. (December 2022 - Primary School)

Helpful staff. Was useful to have a schools guide to talk to us about a few planes in the Airspace Hangar upon our arrival. A pre-visit was very useful to determine the highlights and decide on a route for each group on arrival as time was short. Better to carry lunch with us rather than return to Airspace as distances covered were quite great! (December 2021 - Primary School)

A fully immersive trip for Year 5/6. We concentrated on the WW2 displays because of time constraints of the day. The children really enjoyed the dressing up and other immersivenes of the Dunkirk landing. We also included the American Hangar for the 'awesomeness' of the B52! (January 2019 - Primary School)

Excellent venue with amazing facilities and resources to support our WW2 topic. This a fantastic trip which is free when no workshop option is taken (they no longer run workshops for KS1, sadly). On arrival we were unexpectedly met by some education volunteers, who were a helpful source of information. However, as we had not known that they would be there, we hadn't planned for it and it did somewhat alter the day, with less time for small groups to go and do their own exploring. A number of the hands on science activities were unfortunately out of action, but for the children to see the scale close up of the planes and other vehicles is of enormous benefit. There are usually planes taking off and landing, which is also a fantastic first hand experience. The eating area and storage area are good. The main thing that makes this trip harder for children is the large distance between areas of the museum and the distance between toilets. (April 2018 - Primary School)
