Blackwell Adventure | | Very friendly staff and very accommondating. Activities were well organised, children enjoyed the day and had a lot of positive experiences. Centre was well resourced and safe practices were in place. I feel that one instructor per group for the day would have improved the experience as better relationships could have been built in a shorter space of time. | 30 June 2021 |
Thorpe Park (Day Visits) | | The students all enjoyed themselves very much | 30 June 2021 |
Field Studies Council - Preston Montford | | | 30 June 2021 |
Bill Quay Farm | | The visit was very unorganised and lacklustre due to the organiser being absent.
Little information was given about the animals to the children when petting and feeding them.
The picnic benches were very dirty and I had to ask for cleaner and roll to clean it.
Very disappointing.
Staff did not wait around to see us leave the farm. | 30 June 2021 |
Go Ape Thetford Continuous Belay Course | | Excellent day out! Really handy to have adults both on the ropes and the ground to support each group going round and ensure that children who come off High Ropes first are supervised whilst others get down. Staff on the course were very helpful and supported the children and adult in getting round despite fears. | 30 June 2021 |
Bill Quay Farm | | When we arrived at the farm there was no one there to greet us and we were left standing in the car park for a number of minutes before we managed to catch someone's attention.
The person who had been liaising with me about the visit was off sick but gave me no indication that this was the case. The two ladies who were now running the visit took no charge of what was happening and we were left to try and organise what was happening ourselves. When the first group petted the small animals, there was very limited information given about the animals to the children.
When the second group petted the animals, no information was given to the children about the animals.
In this room there was also hazards, such as an unfinished huge paper mache lizard with metal feet which children and staff kept tripping over.
At lunchtime, I had been advised there was an indoor area we could eat in, however, when I asked where we would be eating, I was offered the room we were currently petting the animals in. I expressed that I did not think this was hygienic (as there was animals living in the room) and that there was not enough space for everyone. We were then offered "the portacabins but there are no tables and chairs so it would have to be a picnic on the floor." The portacabins were locked, we were offered picnic benches outside. One groups picnic area was fine, however, my own group were taken to some benches in a yard in between the barns. The tables were absolutely filthy, there was faeces on the ground and two full rubbish bags left in the yard. I had to ask for spray and roll to clean the tables down myself.
The two groups were not given the same experiences when looking at the farm animals, I understand that we cold not have fed the same animals but both groups should have been able to have seen all the animals.
Around the paths on the farm nettles were not cut back and some of them were taller than the children.
Toilets were very dirty.
When we left the farm, the people who worked there were nowhere to be seen. No one asked if we had enjoyed our visit, or said goodbye.
Staff have mentioned feeling uncomfortable and were made to feel like we were unwelcome. | 30 June 2021 |

Thorpe Park (Day Visits) | | Only issue passed to other trip leaders was being careful about meeting points as the dome is the logical point to meet but can become very congested. Limited under cover meeting points but it is possible to space groups out. | 28 June 2021 |
PGL Caythorpe Court | | Visit was geberally well run by PGL. Many Covid safe routines in plcae on site. Was a little wary about the dining hall as still a lot of people in there at any one time but there were routines in place to esnure we were kept as far away as possible from other groups. I was also a little surprised that harnesses used for activities were not even spray sanitised before another group used them.
All other aspects were fine and I felt that what they had in place was good. | 28 June 2021 |

The Bushcraft Company - Boughton Woods | | Very good! Appropriate for our cohort of Year 5s. | 26 June 2021 |
Kingswood Colomendy | | My rating would be one star were it not for the hardworking staff who tried their hardest to make amends for the errors made by the centre manager and organisation.
The centre manager assumed our booking was cancelled despite no confirmation from us meaning we arrived to find we were not expected, the site understaffed and the possibility of our children (who had been so looking forward to the trip) being forced to return to school. Were it not for our insistence that a solution be found and the children not let down, we likely would have had to return.
The staff member who took over our booking, Ossie, did a great job of salvaging our trip and provided our children with a memorable and enjoyable experience (albeit one different to the one they were expecting due to the activities we had initially booked needing to be changed due to the staffing issues). Thankfully the children did not know or realise how close they came to being sent home and this is due to Ossie and his team.
The food options were very limited (no fresh fruit or vegetables on offer until the packed lunch on the final day) with chips accompanying almost every meal. I am unsure if this was due to Covid or because of the centre manager's previous error with our booking but it was disappointing all the same as I have very much enjoyed the food at other Kingswood sites.
Finally, the whole site seemed to be very run down and in disrepair, with weeds and nettles overgrown on main footpaths, paint peeling on cabins and general neglect. Although, we did notice that attempts had been made to re-paint room interiors in some of the lodges. We had staff members on our trip who were surprised at the state of the site as they had been to previous trips to Colomendy where this was not an issue. Just to add also; on a initial risk assessment visit prior to our trip we were informed by the member of staff guiding us around the site that Kingswood were aware of the run-down nature of the site which was claimed to be due to the site being closed to the public during the Covid19 pandemic. This is completely understandable and we had no issues with this explanation but we were also informed and promised that the site would be "sorted" for our visit which sadly was not the case. | 26 June 2021 |
