| Laches Wood Outdoor Education Centre | We had an amazing few days at Laches Wood, most of the instructors really took time to understand our children and adapted their teaching techniques accordingly. It was a shame the children didn't do their jobs more frequently as we had done at Shugborough the previous year, and in future we would like the children to gather in their groups outside the dinner hall and go in as groups and stay seated until everyone has finished and then clear away. This happened at our last residential and we presumed this would be the same. We never made it clear that was what we wanted but will do next time. The accommodation was great apart from the fact that it was rather too warm. Especially the staff rooms that had no opening windows as the velux windows weren't working. A small price to pay for the memories made and self belief developed. One little boy who we only convinced on the day of the trip came for the first day, but didn't want to take part. Your instructor on the high ropes was simply awesome with him. By the end of the day he was at the top of the tower helping everyone and he came back the second day and stayed the night. They were then adaptable to their various needs. Food was great and there was plenty of choice, when 'picky' eaters could not find anything they liked, the kitchen was again, very helpful. The bedding was clean and fresh, we did have a problem with mould in one of the rooms, which we were able to leave unoccupied by jiggling the numbers around. | PGL Bawdsey Manor | We had a hugely successful trip. The instructors supported our children wonderfully and the food was tailored to our dietary requirements. The one issue we had was the ventilation in Fulmar. It was extremely hot and the children struggled to sleep due to the temperatures - especially in the smaller rooms with up to 6 beds. We were also informed that a room on our floor was for the use of another school. It was not required in the end, but we did see this as a safeguarding risk + covid risk also. | 20 September 2021 | |
