FAQs

View some of the most commonly asked questions by visitors.

What ages do you work with?

All age groups, currently doing a lot of work with primary-aged children, so would like to branch out more working with secondary-aged, as well as college and university aged students. Also willing to work with adults.

Will we have to provide our own equipment?

It depends on the activity/ies you'd like to do, but we do have a lot of equipment for a wide range of activities, so it is unlikely you will need to provide full kit. We also have a 'lending library' of waterproof trousers and coats, wellies from junior size 8 to adult size 11, gloves and hats.

What services can you provide?

We can host any nature-related trips utilising our vast expanse of land which contains many different habitat types including woodland, coastal woodland, rivers, ponds, wetland, wildflower meadows, grassland, heathland/moorland and beaches.

We can:

  1. Facilitate the trips with little-to-no involvement (equipment available to borrow)
  2. Accompany you on trips, providing a bit of local knowledge and context, possibly running a small activity
  3. Lead the trips, running multiple/larger activities, but will still require teachers and teaching assistants to be responsible for the pupils

What sort of trips/activities can you do?

As long as it's nature-related, and makes sense for the area, we can pretty much do anything, however, many activities are seasonal. Here are a few examples of trips we've done in the past:

  1. Tree planting - Autumn/Winter only - bringing students to one of our sites to help us plant trees, getting the children involved in practical conservation work - all ages, but recommended for ages 8+.
  2. Rivers - any time of year, but Spring/Summer best for certain activities - bringing students to either Heddon Valley or Watersmeet to walk along the river, learning a little bit about different river-types and the importance of certain river features, stopping along the way to carry out river fly surveys or looking out for river birds. All ages.
  3. Bioblitz/bug-hunting - Spring/Summer only for best results - bringing students to any of our sites with lots of different equipment such as bug pots, butterfly nets and identification guides. All ages.
