Whilst its location is superb, the hostel itself and its staff left a lot to be desired. Room keys/fobs to corridors didn't work and had to be reprogrammed. Two female members of staff were put in a room with a single bunk bed which would have meant one of us clambering up and down all night if there had been any issues, fortunately we managed to swap with a couple of students. The showers and toilets weren't particularly clean and the small lights and column plugs on the bunk beds didn't work, reported to reception but nothing was done. The breakfast each morning was lovely, however the group meals in an evening weren't particularly brilliant. Access with x2 minibuses was non-existant so parking had to be found in the public car park a few minutes walk away. Overall there are other YHA properties in the area so if we were to plan another trip to Cumbria, we would certainly to use an alternative hostel

Beautiful lakeside setting, friendly helpful staff, good food and reasonable rooms for the price
