For outdoor adventures in the heart of the Peak District National Park, look no further than YHA Edale Activity Centre. This large country house, set in its own woodland/moorland grounds on the flanks of Kinder Scout, has a unique combination of wildness and accessibility. Three separate buildings ensure that exclusivity requirements are met whilst the remainder of the site is very much designed with groups in mind – leader rooms are optimally positioned and there are drying rooms, classrooms, meeting areas and outdoor activity sites in abundance. A games room and free WIFI are available to all and all meals can be provided in our dining room with stunning views over the hills.
The caves, crags and lakes that we use as our outdoor learning venues are all within easy reach of our fleet of minibuses. Every aspect of our provision is carefully designed to enhance a group’s learning potential and the overall quality of the experience. Education groups, regardless of age, ability or experience will benefit from the fact that our activity programmes are bespoke and devised in collaboration with group leaders. We also offer free preliminary visits, allowing you to look at our facilities and talk with staff. This includes an overnight stay at the hostel so that you can get a feel of what to expect when you bring your group on their residential.
The specifics of activity, venue, content and style are constantly adjusted to optimise all learning opportunity – our returning groups know that it is this attention to detail that makes every experience at Edale memorable and significant.
On-site activities can include archery, crate stack, Jacob’s ladder, orienteering, team building exercises and hill walks/navigation challenges. Off site, our numerous venues ensure the optimum locations for climbing, abseiling, canoeing, caving, raft- building and weaselling, and include themed gritstone or limestone days that combine several activities in one experience.
We hold an Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) license, Adventure Mark and a Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge.
