Thameside Nature Park offers a stunning and innovative visitor centre built on a former landfill site, with superb views over Mucking Flats (SSSI) and the Thames Estuary (SPA). There are currently 2 miles footpaths and cycle ways in 120 acres of nature park, which will expand to 845 acres over the coming years. It's a fantastic site for bird watching and ship watching.
The park offers an innovative selection of educational activities for primary schools and secondary schools as well as:
- weekend activities for all ages
- after school clubs for ages 8+
- pre-school clubs
- evening talks and seminars
- workshops for adults
- holiday activities for all ages
- astronomy nights
- health and wellbeing, including evening yoga, tai chi and military style fitness
Facilities: Shop selling toys and gifts, Starling's Tearoom selling drinks and hot food, Learning Zone, seating area, toilets, panoramic roof top viewing platform with free to view telescope.
Disabled access and facilities: Hearing loop, easy access path, full access to visitor centre including roof, disabled toilet and parking.
How to find us: Thameside Nature Park is in south Essex, on the Thames Estuary,in the village of Mucking about five miles east of the M25. From A13 follow signs to Walton Hall Farm Museum and take the next right into Mucking Wharf Road, continue along this road past the small car park and cottage on your right and proceed along the single lane track to the visitors centre and car park.
Directions by public transport: Nearest train station is Stanford-le-Hope. Direct trains from London Fenchurch Street take 50 minutes; direct trains from Southend Central take 25 minutes. Stanford-le-Hope is served by buses from both Southend and Grays, please be prepared for approx 3 mile walk to the Nature Park.
