SES Water's Flow Zone is a state-of-the-art facility, at Bough Beech Reservoir, that is run by a team of former Primary School teachers and offers free school trips for Year 3 onwards.
Flow Zone, which saw over 4,500 pupils through its doors between September 2024 and July 2025, aims to instil a shared responsibility of water conservation, and a better understanding of how clean, safe water makes its way into our taps. The five-year-old centre, in Edenbridge, is a popular learning tool with schools as the interactive day makes links with the National Curriculum - in particular, the water cycle and potable water.
A typical visit starts in the Flow Zone classroom, where children learn about the Water Cycle, geography of the local area, water treatment processes and the history of the reservoir. After this, visitors take an exciting walk to the reservoir and travel through a tunnel deep underneath the water. The second half of the experience, is a tour of the treatment works to see the different cleaning processes first-hand. Finally, the pupils visit the Blue Zone area to play interactive games, which help them learn how to save water and use water wisely.

We would always recommend a pre-visit to our site. This gives you the opportunity to look around, familiarise yourself with our provisions and inform any risk assessments you may need to complete. Furthermore, if you have any students with physical disabilities or restrictions, it is important someone visits to evaluate our walk around the reservoir and dam. Unfortunately, our treatment works is not wheelchair-friendly.
Unfortunately, we are not accessible via public transport. We recommend booking with a local coach company.
Please note: After booking, you will be provided with directions and instructions on how to get to us.
Our visit offers cross-curricular opportunities covering a range of topics across KS2 and KS3. The core learning focuses on:
Our team of education tutors are made up of qualified teachers with experience in working with children with SEND. We are more than happy to work alongside school staff and group adults, to accommodate these pupils and to make their visit as accessible as possible. Additionally, our site is working towards an Autism Friendly Award.
Most of our visit is outside and within an industrial environment so we recommend everyone brings a warm and waterproof coat, as well as appropriate shoes, wellies or walking boots, that you don't mind getting muddy!
We have plenty of picnic benches for lunch, should the weather be warm and dry for your visit! If not, your group will be able to eat lunch in our education centre.
