Bowley International Scout Centre is at the heart of East Lancashire and is situated at the gateway to the North Ribble Valley and Pennine Moors. It is also within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, Fylde Coast and Lakeland Hills.
The centre occupies an area of 47 acres of rolling meadowland bounded by woodland and the River Calder, offering visitors magnificent views of Pendle and the surrounding countryside. The site is easily reached by road, with rail links to the nearby towns of Blackburn, Rishton and Accrington.
We are open to a wide range of youth groups, schools, church groups and other similar organisations. We are not open to the general public for camping/accommodation.
We have a variety of camping pitches, catering from small, secluded areas, to large fields that can accommodate hundreds of campers.
We have a 32 bedded accommodation block (The Lodge), set over two floors. We also have recently introduced Bowley Burrows, a set of 4 camping pod style huts, which come with a kitchen and a shelter for dining/activities.
We also have two field kitchens, which can be booked alongside a camping pitch to put your own tents. Little Bowley is a cabin with a seated verandah. The Den is a stone building with a kitchen and main room for dining/activities. It also has toilets and a shower.
We also offer activities for visitors and can help all groups put a package together to suit their needs and budget. We are happy to arrange everything for you or if you know what you want, look at our price list and then get in touch.

The nearest train stations are in Blackburn and Accrington. There are buses available from there to Great Harwood, the centre of which is a short walk to site.
There are many other bus services that serve Great Harwood.
Please note, if you are coming via your own coach company, please speak with us first. Dean Lane is quite narrow and not all coaches can negotiate this road. We have contacts with several local firms who have vehicles that can make the trip up and down, so please get in touch.
Dean Lane, at which Bowley is situated at the end of, is quite a narrow lane.
There should be no issue for minibuses, just please drive slowly and be prepared to use the passing places on the lane if you meet someone coming in the opposite direction!
Not all coaches/buses are able to negotiate the road, so if planning on travelling here this way, please speak with us before booking your transport.
We do have contacts with local firms who can negotiate the lane due to the vehicles they have. We are more than happy to provide contact details of these.
No we don't. This is because none of the activities we offer on site fall within the scope of the AALA.
We have a wide range of activities available on site.
Many of these are "self-led" and no experience or training is required, once a brief familirisation session has been delivered.
Our more adventurous activities require a qualification/permit to operate these. If you have the necessary training and experience, we may be able to allow you to run these, once we have verified your qualifications.
We can provide instructors to lead all sessions, including the self-led ones. Please try to give as much notice as possible in order for us to secure an instructor.
You are more than welcome to use our land to run your own games and activities as part of your booking.
Sorry, we are not open to the general public for camping. We do run family open days for our activities from time to time - check out our website or Facebook page for details of these.
Absolutely!
We are well located for a number of suitable routes.
We have a number of pitches, with access to showers and toilets. We also have washing up facilities available.
Day activity visits and camping residentials (where you provide the tents) are more than welcome.
The Lodge sleeps 32 indoors but if your class size is larger than this, you are welcome to pitch tents for additional visitors close by.
