Come learn about great art and get creative.
We are home to a richly diverse collection of paintings, sculpture and decorative arts including a fabulous original Tudor portrait of Henry VIII and works by Thomas Gainsborough, Paul Klee, Auguste Renoir and Howard Hodgkin and a host of other artists, from the 15th century to the present day.
We support students of all ages to learn about art and develop their creativity. Our learning sessions are developed with an immersive, interactive and accessible focus, starting with solid cross-curriculum links to our collection or exhibitions.
All facilitated sessions have a creative outcome that aims to develop students’ skills and confidence with a piece to take away. Students see cool contemporary art, beautiful old paintings and objects. They engage with the fascinating stories of artists and their artworks.

We do not have a café, but there are a range of fantastic coffee shops located very close to the Gallery.
We seek to reduce our carbon footprint in many different ways including using energy-efficient lighting and being committed to recycling. You can read our full list of initiatives on our Sustainability page.
There is a small amount of metered on-street parking in the area, otherwise the closest car parks are: The Podium or the Sports and Leisure Centre, both 4hr maximum stays. Blue Badge holders may park on a single yellow line in Bridge Street, alongside of the Gallery and very close to our accessible entrance. For information on coach drop-off and parking see:
Yes, the gallery is fully accessible. Wheelchairs users can use the accessible entrance on Bridge street and internally there is a lift for accessing the first floor galleries.
