We are Field Studies Council, an environmental charity and leaders in outdoor education. We want to inspire your pupils with innovative teaching, and explore diverse learning environments together, to encourage them to care for our natural world.
Surrounded by stunning ancient woodland, Field Studies Council Bishops Wood has a unique and sustainable centre building. The grounds are also home to a large pond and several outdoor learning areas with natural wood and willow sculptures.
Bishops Wood Centre is one of the National Grid Environmental Education Centres. The Centres across the UK have been developed in collaboration with environmental charities, to show how nature and communities can thrive alongside critical national infrastructure. Working in partnership with National Grid, Field Studies Council enhance the value of the natural asset and provide educational activities to those who visit.
Each year over 3,000 school groups, from key stage 1 to university level, visit our UK centres for geography or science (biology) fieldwork, cross-curricular environmental activity courses, plus outdoor adventure.
Let our education team help transform your classroom theory into real subject knowledge, and harness the adventure found in nature, through hands-on experiences. We live and breathe outdoor education, and want to share our passion with your pupils.

As always, the providers were wonderful and really thorough with their giving of information to the children. The trip ran very smoothly at the venue, and we were happy with the outcome of the day.

The team at Bishops Wood were amazing, as always. It was a very hot day and they looked after us from start to finish. They provided hats for children without them and jugs of cold water were available in the fridge so that we could refill our water bottles throughout the day to keep us all hydrated. All outdoor activities were completed safely in shaded woodland areas. Children thoroughly enjoyed all the activities. A great link to our history studies about life in Stone Age Britain!
