We are Field Studies Council, an environmental charity and leaders in outdoor education. We want to inspire your pupils with innovative teaching, and explore diverse learning environments together, to encourage them to care for our natural world.
Slapton Ley is a stone’s throw from the unspoilt and picturesque coastline of South Devon. Slapton Ley Field Centre is located on the Start Bay coast. It’s surrounded by the 210-hectare Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve that includes the 4km long Slapton Sands beach and the largest freshwater lake in the Southwest.
The centre is located within the South Devon National Landscape close to Dartmoor National Park and is within easy reach of the M5 and mainline train station at Totnes. It is located within landscaped grounds with seating areas, shelters, kitchen garden and wildlife areas.
Accommodation is set across four buildings sleeping up to 162 guests across 42 bedrooms.
Each year over 3,000 school groups, from key stage 1 to university level, visit our centres for geography or science (biology) fieldwork, cross-curricular environmental activity courses, plus outdoor adventure.
Let our education team help transform your classroom theory into real subject knowledge, and harness the adventure found in nature, through hands-on experiences. We live and breathe outdoor education, and want to share our passion with your pupils.

The staff are highly skilled at delivering a very well structure programme that helps the girls to understand techniques that can be used in either a human or physical NEA investigation and allows them to collect data for their local ecosystems case study. The centre has all the appropriate equipment. The delivered material is very specifically tailored to the requirments of the specification. The staff take the time to get to know the girls by name which gives them a good experience of their trip alongside the depth of learning they also take away with them
