For KS2 students, we offer half day or full day visits, as follows:-

- Plenary session. What have we learnt? (approx. 10 minutes)
Full day visit
A full day visit includes the half day activities listed above in the morning, followed by WaterAid, LEGO® blockages OR FOG activities in the afternoon:
WaterAid
The afternoon focuses on the difference between communities in Zambia and the Yorkshire region. We will explore how villagers access their water supplies and the benefits of working with WaterAid to bring clean water and sanitation to those less fortunate. The sessions will comprise of activities from our WaterAid programme.
OR
LEGO® Blockages
We're offering an engaging STEM learning experience for your Year 5 or Year 6 students, aimed at sparking creativity, collaboration and critical thinking through the power of purposeful play. Based on the theme of sewer blockages, the curriculum aligned sessions will involve your students using coding and robotics design to complete a real-world challenge using LEGO®. At the end of the sessions, your students will enjoy bringing their creations to life using simple hardware.
OR
FOG
Explore how fats, oil and grease (FOG) can block wastewater pipes and sewers. We will explore the consequences of these blockages through role play, presentations and simple experiments. This raises awareness of the items we should and should not dispose of down the sink and toilet. Students will learn to translate this knowledge into positive action to improve their local communities and the planet.
You can check availability for each of our centres at yorkshirewater.com/education/teachers/availability-booking/. Please note that we can only take one class per session.
The education guides are well prepared to adapt language and activities depending on the reading age and educational needs of the children in your group.

Good for increasing understanding about the water cycle, so would be relevant for topics relating to it in both geography and science.

The visit to the Water Treatment Works was a great way to enhance our learning in geography and science. It was a way to assess the pre-learning but also went on then to enhance the childrens understanding. The children enjoyed the tour of the works and using the education centre.
