Gilbert Whites Field Studies Centre

Inspiring Journeys in the Natural World

Description

The Gilbert White Field Studies Centre is the Education Department of Gilbert White’s House and The Oates Collection. Gilbert White, Frank Oates and Lawrence Oates were all explorers of the natural world, from Selborne to Central America, Africa to Antarctica. We aim to inspire the next generation to develop their own curiosity about the natural world; to explore it, understand it, enjoy it and look after it.
Our workshops include both local natural history, making full use of our beautiful grounds and surrounding countryside, and world exploration using the fascinating historic collections of our museum with galleries on Antarctica, Africa and Central America. Please see our website for a full list of workshops available.

During the trip we also linked one of the activities to the Outdoor Learning topic on map making (October 2022 - Primary School)

Wow! It was so well organised by the staff on site. The children's feet didn't touch the ground. The children got so much out of the trip. Lots of relevant information taught in a practical way that all levels could access. (October 2022 - Primary School)

(May 2022 - Primary School)

Fiona, the guide, was excellent. (May 2022 - Primary School)
