Holland Park Ecology Centre

Description

The Holland Park Ecology Centre was opened in September 2013 providing a purpose-built base for the Kensington and Chelsea's Ecology Service. The Centre is an invaluable environmental education resource for schools and residents to enjoy and learn about the natural environment.

The Centre also provides a unique space that is used for public events and can be hired for birthday parties, functions, meetings and training purposes.

The Holland Park Ecology Centre provides an excellent facility for local schools to study and enjoy the natural environment, and can be booked for field trips, Forest School and environmental education workshops throughout the year. Our Outdoor Investigations take place in Holland Park Wildlife Area, which features a wildlife pond with a dipping platform, woodland and grassland habitat. Visiting groups can work independently or with a member of staff.

Forest School
All of our teaching staff are qualified Level 3 Forest School Leaders, and we run 6-week programmes for young people. Forest School is an educational model which encourages holistic, social, emotional, intellectual, physical, character and spiritual development through exploration of and engagement with the natural world.

(February 2024 - Primary School)

(December 2023 - Primary School)

As always, a well organised trip - with professional workshop leaders. (November 2023 - Primary School)

(September 2023)

This was a really great trip. The centre leaders are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The workshop was pitched well for the age of the student. The activities including pond dipping and mini beast hunt are well planned and resourced with due regard for safe guarding. The centre itself is attractive with lots of models of animals for the students to see. (May 2023 - Primary School)

Great for EYFS area of Understanding of the World, chn were very engaged in the task (May 2023 - Primary School)

A wonderful way to explore nature and be independent. Taking risks and play imaginary games (May 2023 - Primary School)

This was a really great trip. The workshop leader was calm and knowledgeable, pitching the material just right for the student needs. The time taken on talking/discussion and the practical activities of pond dipping and mini beast hunt was well scheduled. It was a safe environment and the students got lots out of it. Materials and resources are available from the centre to use with the students before and after the visit. I would definitely recommend this venue for educational visits. We are returning in May to do another related workshop. (April 2023 - Primary School)

(October 2022 - Primary School)

We had an excellent experience at the Holland Park Ecology Centre. From beginning to end they were incredibly helpful and informative throughout the booking process, pre-visit and of course during the trip itself. All members of staff and parents felt completely at ease and assured that the day was in good hands and that everything would run smoothly and effectively. The children had a wonderful time. Along with repeatedly stating that it was the best day ever, they learnt a great deal about deciduous and evergreen trees (linking in accurately with the Year 1 curriculum) within a fun and explorative environment. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and professional throughout. I would highly recommend the Holland Park Ecology Centre. (April 2022 - Primary School)

Staff really helpful, everything started on time and ran smoothly. They provided equipment we needed for the minibeast hunt. (November 2019 - Primary School)

This was an excellent workshop. The children enjoyed all of it. It is affordable for the school and Jenny at the ecology centre was fantastic explaining everything. I will definitely recommend other staff at the school what Holland Park offers as we have not been on trips there. Online there are some great workshops for all years.
