The NST is a great company to work with. Especially, I would like to thank you to Julie Price for her ongoing help and patience. David, our Iceland guide, is very knowledgeable person who took us through the journey of understanding tectonics, volcanoes, glaciers etc. Thank you! The Hotel Cabin served its purposes. Its location next to sea is perfect; very comfortable beds (according to students) and the buffet style food was generally good. We had few students who complaint about food selection (e.g. missing chips or pizza) but everybody could find something to eat. The driver called Conrad in Iceland - excellent and thank you! The Westbus journey to and from the Heathrow: Excellent driver called Vladimir who drive us to the Heathrow Unfortunately, the only disappointment for us was almost 1 hour delay to get back from Heathrow to school. Pros • Useful app with main details for passports, medical issues, dietary needs and all easily downloadable • Good system to upload rooming when available • Useful trip checklist on My Tour Manager • Good to have all certification already uploaded on My Tour Manager • Stabia Hotel – a really good hotel with fantastic staff. Highly recommended for groups • Good response times to emails and easy to contact the call centre • Good coaches in Italy • Excellent guides in Pompeii • Agreed to reimburse us for entrance to sites for teachers as there was no mention of this cost before Cons: • Had to ask about BA flights as not investigated that option when providing a quote • Offered inferior accommodation initially, which had terrible reviews. • Told could have 2 free nights for recce but had to insist on staying in the hotel we booked for students. Booked independently but didn't share details so it was stressful when there as the hotel didn't recognise my name, school or NST. No indication it was booked under 'destination services' • Sent wrong invoice which needed checking • Not clear how long we had a guide before booking. Email and itinerary said a guide for 7 hours, but actually 5 hours in Pompeii but would be with us on coach. As it turned out, the excellent guides met us there and were with us for the day, so we got good value for money, but communication could be clearer. • Would have been good to be informed about Brexit rules on meat/dairy imports so that students are not allowed to take packed lunches into Italy as we had discussed them buying food for the journey. • Ice cream tour booked away 2 separate groups (at 1pm and 2pm) and this was confirmed on the phone and in writing, but when we got to the venue in Sorrento, we found that it was actually booked as one big group at 1pm. • The agent never met me in Italy. Asked if needed a voucher for ice cream and provided email address and WhatsApp but only sent it after I had been told we were one big group. Agreed their info was different from NST info. • Couldn't get hold of the Italian agent when coach to airport did not turn up for 40 mins, despite calling and messaging on WhatsApp. Response over an hour later just saying "sorry I was working". Do they not actually work for NST? • Was told city tax was 3 euros pp/1.50 pp/ for over 14/for over 18 and conflicting information via email, itinerary and phone. It was 1.50 pp and for everyone over 14. This is not what I was told on the Thursday before going. • On this call, they mentioned rooming was available Thursday at 3:30pm but didn't notify me until Friday morning when knew I was at Sports Day and would not be able to access details. Without asking, allocated non-binary student to a single room. Neither helpful nor appropriate for this autistic student. I had to call at 4:15pm on Friday as "seen you'd sent an email last night but not got around to it". Hoped for greater priority considering we were leaving at 5am on Monday. • No mention we had to pay for entrance fees until on final itinerary. Final itinerary not sent until Tuesday before we left and only after chasing. • Original itinerary had strange timings, like checking out at 9am and coach arriving 11am. • No help with lunch options and seem to have little knowledge of sites. • No booking reference at any of sites. Château d’Ebblinghem is a great place for Year 6 to go to. The site is safe and secure. Lots of opportunities to practise and extend knowledge of simple French and the culture of France. The visits to local places are interesting and varied. (May 2024 - Primary School)

The venue was great. The hotel's facilities are great for KS3 and KS4 as well as older students. Staff would have to be more vigilent if taking primary school children as thre is open access to a main road. Naples Evaluation 12-15th March 2024 This was a highly successful trip. Timings for the trip were excellent and the days were highly successful and linked to the curriculum well. Day 1: Although a long day, the farm visit was hugely successful and looked at farm diversification. They made pizza by hand and we ate a good lunch. The Gelato making experience was delicious. Day 2: Isle of Capri & Sorrento: The students were a highly capable group who walked around the isle of capri led by our two NST guides. The weather was delightful and the crossing gentle and calm, the boat was busy on this day both going and returning from capri. Superb day; We spent some time after the day on Capri to visit the town of Sorrento. This was a safe and delightful moment. Day 3: Vesuvius and Pompeii: a lovely day, great weather and good views from the top. Pompeii was a safe environment but needed more time to explore. We had two and a half hours here. Vesuvius was a steady climb of 140m In height. The group walked for 40 ish minutes to reach the top crater. NST guides led the group at a good pace. Day 4: Naples a difficult city to tour with a large group. Road crossing was a difficult task but fully supported by all staff in the team. Naple’s Archaeological Museum was a safe and outstanding environment with strong links to History and Ancient History. It is a modern building with storage for bags. Students were not allowed to take bags in with them. Hotel Stabia review – A good hotel with organised and helpful staff. Food was of high quality at each meal time. There was good recognition regarding allergies. We were able to meet with students in a lounge area close to reception and this was socially really good. NST were reliable, all coaches were on time and the rep who met us was very helpful in getting us to the hotel and settled. On one of the days we had an older coach and some of the seatbelts didn't work. Accommodation was poor, packed lunches were provided but we had to make them which took up a long time on day two. Water was not drinkable in the hotel but they only provided 6 extra bottles for 70 students. NST had got a coach driver last minute who only had just enough hours left on his quota and added a lot of stress to the journey as he kept saying if we were delayed he would have to stop driving and it wasn't his problem. The tour guide was quite rude to me and put his hand in my face to tell me to stop talking when I was asking an important question at the time of boarding the ferry. I would not use NST again. In previous years we have had a fabulous experience with NST, but unfortunately this trip did not live up to expectations and I feel the service provided was not up to standard. The impacts of covid have undoubtedly caused some of this, and feel like a lot of the staff were inexperienced and were dealing with too many tours, which meant simple tasks and information was overlooked. Krakow is a lovely clean city that is walkable. A phone with google maps is advantageous as NST's guide left me to guide the group on day 2 and 3. NST was variable as the tickets for the salt mine were incorrect. However, the bus to pick us up from Upton Hall on the Wirral was 2 hours late and we just made our flight. NST are incredibly helpful at all stages of trip planning and preparation. They are always available on the phone and every aspect of the trip was very clear to me. At the last minute, we had two students drop out for illness and when I wanted to replace them the day before we left, NST were able to sort this out quickly and smoothly. The coach drivers NST work with were a delight - really knowledgeable and friendly, they had great rapport with our students and made the trip much easier! NST were utterly useless when it transpired that the hostel that they put us in had an entire floor (2nd floor) affected by bedbugs. They were unable to find us an alternative accommodation and staff had to give up their rooms so that the students could move out of the 2 rooms affected. They also arranged us a tour of the Bernabeu stadium which was undergoing construction work so we couldn't really see all the parts of the stadiums like we did back in 2020. it was utterly disappointing and they had nothing to say for themselves other than 'they didn't know'. NST and the Ventura Hostel were both awful, incompetent and we will be asking for some of the money back as a result. We will not be using the hostel again and I very much doubt NST will be working with us next year (February 2023 - Secondary School)

The meals were excellent, however there was a miscommunication between NST and the hotel (A+O Hauptbahnhof Aachen) and we turned up for dinner, only to discover that we had not been booked in on our final evening (contrary to our itinerary). The only option on our way home was fast food or sandwiches and I felt disappointed that our students had not had a warm, nutritious, well-balanced meal that day, before our onward travel. It also caused additional stress and inconvenience needing to figure out where to stop and how to feed 36 students and 5 staff on the way home. NST were not able to help advise on this, so we had to figure it out with the coach driver. NST are refunding as for the costs of this. The hostel was noisy as next to the station and a very busy road. Though we were generally happy with our rooms, lots of the key cards did not work correctly on arrival which meant a lot of to-ing and fro-ing up and down 5 flights of stairs. One room had curtains hanging off the curtain rail. We really could have done with having our rooming earlier ( despite much chasing, only received the night before), particularly as we had an autistic student with us. (December 2022)

Excellent staff, high quality accommodation and particularly strong for catering for dietary requirements. They even went back to the aquarium (over an hour away) to retrieve a lost bag to reunite one of our students with his AirPods before we returned home. Very highly recommended! A very time-intensive trip leader experience with poor service. Fortunately we have run a high number of similar trips before so I knew what had not been considered, but on every email sent I received an email to give me an agent’s working hours, stating they were only available two days a week. Lots of extra work created to book the experience as we wanted and incorrect assumptions made by the agent. A device sent out to use whilst away, which was dated, not easy to operate without reading a lot of information and added an additional task to post the device back. Poor scheduling on the Saturday with insufficient time for lunch. Poor communication with the coach company who did not have the capacity to fulfil their role fully as we needed. Extremely good value for what was included within the tour. Some good systems in place, for example enabling parents to locate the trip with live updates. I was not happy with the systems in place beforehand. We used the companies site to update traveller information, however it was clunky and outdated and led to several administrative errors which needed addressing on several occasions to ensure that passport details were entered correctly. This was time consuming and I called them on several occasions to sort this out. Despite these efforts on my part, the names and numbers were not always amended and it took relentless chasing to ensure that the details were eventually correct. Overall, the organisation of the event was good and enabled me, as an experienced leader and someone who has spent a lot of time in Paris, to cater the trip to my students needs. This was important as neither the coach driver team nor the local NST representative could offer support. The drivers did not know Paris at all and, had it not been for my experience in some situations, would have caused significant additional walking etc for students when this was not necessary. Good communication prior to the trip. Everything was booked and sent. We had paper copies as well as it all on a mobile app which made it easy to understand. We were not met at the airport (be were called). I think that this was due to circumstances in Rome (Putin had come to visit the Pope) making it difficult to travel around the city. We were met at the hotel and the trips were described to us and a map provided. I think it would have been nice if the local rep had called or visited everyday to check everything was okay. Itinery and bus company ordered well. Tracker app and My Tour manager were very useful resources and negated the need for paper work. Unfortunately, some confusion with payment between the hotel and NST resulted in the trip leader having to pay for his room. Feedback for school after New York trip These are the main issues we encountered on this trip: • Parents on the trip. I wouldn’t want to ban them, and some of them were very useful and contributed a lot to the trip, but I think it needs to be made clear that there is a group leader who makes the rules and gives the instructions and they need to go along with these and not interfere. Parents are concerned mainly with their own daughters and sometimes made poor decisions that affected the rest of the group. Clear guidelines need to be set and parents might need to be spoken to away from the group on future trips if issues arise. • The first aid kit was unnecessarily bulky, mainly due to a huge number of bandages and tissues inside. We didn’t need that many and actually needed a smaller kit, as the one we were give was too large to carry, bearing in mind all the other things we had to have with us. Suggested items that we really could have used in the first aid kit: • Something to alleviate burns. One pupil burned her ear on a hair straightener. • Sachets of Calpol or similar, as paracetamol are not always easy for pupils to take. • Piriton needs to be clearly labelled. I knew that I was supposed to have it, but I didn’t know what it looked like in the kit. I didn’t realise that it was the same thing as the antihistamine cream that was in the kit. • Be careful of scissors going through security at airport. • I think trip leaders need to be told about potential problems with students right at the beginning of trip planning. We felt that we didn’t have important health information on some of our travelling pupils until much too late in the planning stages. When someone develops a potentially serious condition then her name needs to be flagged for any trips to check commitments rather than wait for the trip planning to be almost finalised. • Helpful things to do on future trips: o Can we put programmes online electronically so that audience members could scan a barcode? It is unrealistic to bring stacks of photocopied paper with us, but an electronic version might be welcome. o Pupils losing their metro cards, music, passports, boarding passes, etc. is always an issue. Any thoughts on how to combat this? They are reminded frequently, but some always forget. o Mobile phones. Is it just the way things are that pupils spend their whole time on their phones rather than enjoying what they’ve paid to come see? Such a shame.   Working with NST. Of all the trips I have run over the years, this was the most successful one so far. I have taken three other similar trips to New York but never had groups perform as part of the trip. This worked very well and the concerts were successfully performed, if not so well attended. Communication with NST before the trip was good and the final trip pack arrived early enough this year, thank you. I love the trip pack that you produce: it was very helpful throughout the trip. You will be aware that there was concern over tipping being mentioned only in the final stages of planning for the trip. Please add this to the initial quote. Laura said that this isn’t possible until the details of the trip are finalised, but you should be able to foresee that each group will need to tip the meet and greet people, the coach driver to and from the airport, and any tour guides we have on the trip. If I’d known about this from the start, I would have built it into the price of the trip. We decided not to use the electronic tracking device provided by NST. With everything else we have to carry for our school, it was just too much. I couldn’t use the NST app in the end, as my phone didn’t work in America. As I said after the Budapest trip, some of the feedback that I’ve read about NST from other music teachers is that there is too much free time on the itinerary. I was quite happy to find things for my group to do when we had free time on our itinerary, but I’m not sure I would be as confident in an unfamiliar location. That said, we hardly had a minute of free time. I think I rather over-scheduled things and we could have used with an hour or two of down-time at our hotel before dinner each day. Transport. Having NST representative meet us at Heathrow was a bonus and we appreciated her help with check-in. She was trying to push us to get pupils to check their luggage before the rest of the group was accounted for, but I insisted that we would all go through together. We had an ESTA problem at the airport and our rep helped us sort it. United Airlines was a great choice. Easy check-in, spacious seats, lots of on-board entertainment, good meals. No complaints. Our coach drivers to and from Newark were very professional and efficient. They earned their tips. Our meet and greet guide never stopped talking throughout the entire journey. After and eight-hour flight, we could have done with a bit of peace and quiet. Local 5 day travel cards were very convenient and we used them a lot. The swipe cards were difficult for pupils to use and we caused lots of blockages at the turnstiles. Nothing really could be done about this, apart from letting group leaders to be prepared for this. Accommodation. Our accommodation, the Courtyard Marriott Midtown East, was superb and certainly the most luxurious I have ever stayed in with a school group. It was very conveniently located to all forms of public transportation and just around the corner from a handy shop. The rooms were spacious and clean, with modern decoration and air conditioning/heating and spectacular views. There was a breakfast buffet available at the hotel and plenty of seating which would have been far more convenient for our group to use; however, I don’t think the experience would have been as nice as eating at the cafes we used (see below). It was a bit of a drag being located on the East side of Manhattan when all of our activities were on the West Side. We lost a lot of time getting to our Times Square restaurant venues because we had to come across the city, but we coped, and the benefits of our luxurious hotel made up for the inconvenience. Concert venues. Our three concerts went well but were disappointingly poorly attended, without exception. Was it the time of day? Lack of publicity? Saint Malachy “The Actors’ Church” – Great location, acoustics, hosts, and piano. Close to our workshops and Broadway area. Less than a dozen people attended our concert. There was a poster outside advertising our concert, which was good and maybe helped to draw in the few people who did come. The tap dance worked great here. The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine. Overwhelmingly grand and inspirational to perform in, but our least well-attended concert. The only people in the audience were those we brought with us. There was one school group touring the cathedral who stopped to listen for a minute or two, but otherwise, it was like a rehearsal. I didn’t see any advertising for our concert outside the cathedral. It was snowing when we performed, which might have kept people away. Our third venue was Riverside Church, which was another good choice of glorious performance space. We were warmly greeted and given a guided tour. It was a boost for our school that the reverend was a woman and the church was such a liberal and inclusive venue. Our audience was a small but appreciative group of retirees, maybe 20 in total. Disappointingly few, considering all the work that went into performing there. Food. A change from Budapest, all the pupils seemed to love every mouthful. Not a single complaint from anyone about any of the food. Our breakfast venues were quirky and very typical New York Diners. I preferred Scotty’s diner because we had our own room that was ready for us when we arrived. Morning Star Café was closer to our hotel but was crowded and we had to wait for people to vacate their tables before we could squeeze in. The manager at Morning Star Café tried to get everyone to pay extra to upgrade the menu, which caused some angst among our group, as we were in a rush after the long wait. That said, the service at both places was extremely friendly and lighting fast, and the food was delicious and plentiful. Both venues are highly recommended. The four ultra-touristy restaurants we were assigned were big hits with our group – noisy, lively, plentiful American food, things to see. They are clearly used to school groups and processed us through quickly and efficiently. I would prefer a more authentic New York meal, but I’m not a teenager. Planet Hollywood had the worst food and probably the worst ambience. I wouldn’t go there again. Pupils liked Ellen’s Stardust Diner the most and the food was better there, as well. The entertainment was fun and high quality. Hard Rock Café and Bubba Gump were also both good. The excursions. Empire State Building. Great. Hardly had to wait at all. Very cold and windy. We didn’t stay long. Manhattan School of Music really inspired our students. I recommend adding them or maybe Juilliard to your list of things to do. They gave us a tour and we sat in on a choir rehearsal. They had a great gift shop, as well. Museum of Modern Art was spectacular. Many of our students actually based their coursework on paintings that were on display there. Stage Combat. A great class and the leader granted my wish to have pupils mix partners so they weren’t always stuck with the same person. I’ve done this class many times and this one wasn’t as focused as usual. It was lots of little moves taught one by one. Usually they build up to a fight sequence which is shown to the rest of the group. Our group of girls mainly giggled and didn’t really engage as much as other groups I’ve taken. The class only lasted an hour before they brought in one of the Aladdin cast to talk to the group and answer questions. This was very informative and enjoyable. Step By Step. We thought the stage combat class was good, but this class was exceptionally good. Our instructor, another from the Aladdin cast, was a true teacher and fabulous dancer and the group was inspired and achieved some very advanced goals. Aladdin. A real crowdpleasing blockbuster of a show. The pupils loved it. We were really far away from the stage, but the view was okay. Summary. This was a fantastic trip that definitely exceeded my expectations. NST really delivered on so many areas and the concert venues and restaurants were unforgettable for staff and students alike. NST organised a good itinerary which included support staff at either end of our journey. Linda Hyams (tour manager) was extremely helpful, especially when it came to the late drop-outs. Their trip folder was also of use. Only one note of concern was the Berlin Olympic Stadium which was closed, meaning our 1 hour planned tour was cancelled. Most things were very well organised and a lot of support was given before and throughout the trip, especially in dealing with last-minute changes (due to the demonstrations taking place in the city). The hotel, however, was not suitable for children as the windows had no safety catches. Disappointing that they thought this would be safe but they did ensure that we were moved to a much better hotel the following day. The second hotel they provided us with was much more secure and safety was greatly improved. Staff were very helpful in dealing with any problems/ questions that arose during the trip. Due to the demonstrations in the city, our itinerery had to be changed the day we were travelling to France. NST kindly covered the cost of the Cité des Sciences, which had not previously been on our itinerary, so that students would be safe indoors. Students enjoyed all activities. I would ideally give 4 1/2 stars! Our experience with NST was very positive and they helped us to organise all of the arrangements and even managed to sort any last minute changes. The trip was excellent and highly praised by pupils. We enjoyed having the flexibility to alter our itinerary in the initial stages. The accommodation was suitable for our group and all necessary services were provided. The only small inconveniences were that I was sent a cabin booking form and filled it out as required on My Tour Manager, but then because we took daytime ferries the form was not required (wasted over an hour!). The hostel did not have all of the exact rooms as available on the rooming form I was sent, but they did re-accommodate another guest so that we had enough rooms for all of our group. The bus drivers were excellent and very flexible to our group's needs. However, there were some moments where communication between NST and Parks hadn't been totally clear and the drivers were asking me odd questions about accommodation, meals, timings, etc. Nevertheless, we worked around these issues together. The NST is a great company to work with. Especially, I would like to thank you to Julie Price for her ongoing help and patience. David, our Iceland guide, is very knowledgeable person who took us through the journey of understanding tectonics, volcanoes, glaciers etc. Thank you! The Hotel Cabin served its purposes. Its location next to sea is perfect; very comfortable beds (according to students) and the buffet style food was generally good. We had few students who complaint about food selection (e.g. missing chips or pizza) but everybody could find something to eat. The driver called Conrad in Iceland - excellent and thank you! The Westbus journey to and from the Heathrow: Excellent driver called Vladimir who drive us to the Heathrow Unfortunately, the only disappointment for us was almost 1 hour delay to get back from Heathrow to school. The driver was a bit grumpy which wasn't necessary for all my students and staff after such long day of travel.

Highly recommended for groups • Good response times to emails and easy to contact the call centre • Good coaches in Italy • Excellent guides in Pompeii • Agreed to reimburse us for entrance to sites for teachers as there was no mention of this cost before Cons: • Had to ask about BA flights as not investigated that option when providing a quote • Offered inferior accommodation initially, which had terrible reviews. • Told could have 2 free nights for recce but had to insist on staying in the hotel we booked for students. Booked independently but didn't share details so it was stressful when there as the hotel didn't recognise my name, school or NST. No indication it was booked under 'destination services' • Sent wrong invoice which needed checking • Not clear how long we had a guide before booking. Email and itinerary said a guide for 7 hours, but actually 5 hours in Pompeii but would be with us on coach. As it turned out, the excellent guides met us there and were with us for the day, so we got good value for money, but communication could be clearer. • Would have been good to be informed about Brexit rules on meat/dairy imports so that students are not allowed to take packed lunches into Italy as we had discussed them buying food for the journey. • Ice cream tour booked away 2 separate groups (at 1pm and 2pm) and this was confirmed on the phone and in writing, but when we got to the venue in Sorrento, we found that it was actually booked as one big group at 1pm. • The agent never met me in Italy. Asked if needed a voucher for ice cream and provided email address and WhatsApp but only sent it after I had been told we were one big group. Agreed their info was different from NST info. • Couldn't get hold of the Italian agent when coach to airport did not turn up for 40 mins, despite calling and messaging on WhatsApp. Response over an hour later just saying "sorry I was working". Do they not actually work for NST? • Was told city tax was 3 euros pp/1.50 pp/ for over 14/for over 18 and conflicting information via email, itinerary and phone. It was 1.50 pp and for everyone over 14. This is not what I was told on the Thursday before going. • On this call, they mentioned rooming was available Thursday at 3:30pm but didn't notify me until Friday morning when knew I was at Sports Day and would not be able to access details. Without asking, allocated non-binary student to a single room. Neither helpful nor appropriate for this autistic student. I had to call at 4:15pm on Friday as "seen you'd sent an email last night but not got around to it". Hoped for greater priority considering we were leaving at 5am on Monday. • No mention we had to pay for entrance fees until on final itinerary. Final itinerary not sent until Tuesday before we left and only after chasing. • Original itinerary had strange timings, like checking out at 9am and coach arriving 11am. • No help with lunch options and seem to have little knowledge of sites. • No booking reference at any of sites. Archaeological Museum only let us in as it was quiet. Need a booking reference number, which was not provided.

Château d’Ebblinghem is a great place for Year 6 to go to. The site is safe and secure. Lots of opportunities to practise and extend knowledge of simple French and the culture of France. The visits to local places are interesting and varied.

The venue was great. The hotel's facilities are great for KS3 and KS4 as well as older students. Staff would have to be more vigilent if taking primary school children as thre is open access to a main road. Naples Evaluation 12-15th March 2024 This was a highly successful trip. Timings for the trip were excellent and the days were highly successful and linked to the curriculum well. Day 1: Although a long day, the farm visit was hugely successful and looked at farm diversification. They made pizza by hand and we ate a good lunch. The Gelato making experience was delicious. Day 2: Isle of Capri & Sorrento: The students were a highly capable group who walked around the isle of capri led by our two NST guides. The weather was delightful and the crossing gentle and calm, the boat was busy on this day both going and returning from capri. Superb day; We spent some time after the day on Capri to visit the town of Sorrento. This was a safe and delightful moment. Day 3: Vesuvius and Pompeii: a lovely day, great weather and good views from the top. Pompeii was a safe environment but needed more time to explore. We had two and a half hours here. Vesuvius was a steady climb of 140m In height. The group walked for 40 ish minutes to reach the top crater. NST guides led the group at a good pace. Day 4: Naples a difficult city to tour with a large group. Road crossing was a difficult task but fully supported by all staff in the team. Naple’s Archaeological Museum was a safe and outstanding environment with strong links to History and Ancient History. It is a modern building with storage for bags. Students were not allowed to take bags in with them. Hotel Stabia review – A good hotel with organised and helpful staff. Food was of high quality at each meal time. There was good recognition regarding allergies. We were able to meet with students in a lounge area close to reception and this was socially really good. Some rooms had balconies and students were told/advised not to access them. Swimming pool present (but tiny) not open or full during winter period.

NST were reliable, all coaches were on time and the rep who met us was very helpful in getting us to the hotel and settled. On one of the days we had an older coach and some of the seatbelts didn't work. As we were a smaller group and there was space we just moved students around to other seats but with a larger group this would be an issue.

Accommodation was poor, packed lunches were provided but we had to make them which took up a long time on day two. Water was not drinkable in the hotel but they only provided 6 extra bottles for 70 students. NST had got a coach driver last minute who only had just enough hours left on his quota and added a lot of stress to the journey as he kept saying if we were delayed he would have to stop driving and it wasn't his problem. The tour guide was quite rude to me and put his hand in my face to tell me to stop talking when I was asking an important question at the time of boarding the ferry. I would not use NST again.

In previous years we have had a fabulous experience with NST, but unfortunately this trip did not live up to expectations and I feel the service provided was not up to standard. The impacts of covid have undoubtedly caused some of this, and feel like a lot of the staff were inexperienced and were dealing with too many tours, which meant simple tasks and information was overlooked. I felt like I constantly had to keep an eye on things and tripled check proceedings, which when you are paying someone else to do this, feels quite frustrating.

Krakow is a lovely clean city that is walkable. A phone with google maps is advantageous as NST's guide left me to guide the group on day 2 and 3. NST was variable as the tickets for the salt mine were incorrect. However, the bus to pick us up from Upton Hall on the Wirral was 2 hours late and we just made our flight. This was very poor service indeed.

NST are incredibly helpful at all stages of trip planning and preparation. They are always available on the phone and every aspect of the trip was very clear to me. At the last minute, we had two students drop out for illness and when I wanted to replace them the day before we left, NST were able to sort this out quickly and smoothly. The coach drivers NST work with were a delight - really knowledgeable and friendly, they had great rapport with our students and made the trip much easier! Altogether, organising a trip abroad was made significantly less stressful with NST and the trip they put together for us was varied, engaging and a huge success.

NST were utterly useless when it transpired that the hostel that they put us in had an entire floor (2nd floor) affected by bedbugs. They were unable to find us an alternative accommodation and staff had to give up their rooms so that the students could move out of the 2 rooms affected. They also arranged us a tour of the Bernabeu stadium which was undergoing construction work so we couldn't really see all the parts of the stadiums like we did back in 2020. it was utterly disappointing and they had nothing to say for themselves other than 'they didn't know'. NST and the Ventura Hostel were both awful, incompetent and we will be asking for some of the money back as a result. We will not be using the hostel again and I very much doubt NST will be working with us next year

The meals were excellent, however there was a miscommunication between NST and the hotel (A+O Hauptbahnhof Aachen) and we turned up for dinner, only to discover that we had not been booked in on our final evening (contrary to our itinerary). The only option on our way home was fast food or sandwiches and I felt disappointed that our students had not had a warm, nutritious, well-balanced meal that day, before our onward travel. It also caused additional stress and inconvenience needing to figure out where to stop and how to feed 36 students and 5 staff on the way home. NST were not able to help advise on this, so we had to figure it out with the coach driver. NST are refunding as for the costs of this. The hostel was noisy as next to the station and a very busy road. Though we were generally happy with our rooms, lots of the key cards did not work correctly on arrival which meant a lot of to-ing and fro-ing up and down 5 flights of stairs. One room had curtains hanging off the curtain rail. We really could have done with having our rooming earlier ( despite much chasing, only received the night before), particularly as we had an autistic student with us.

There was some confusion with NST getting the wrong date for the trip but this was quickly fixed and solutions found. The trip, overall, went very well.

A very time-intensive trip leader experience with poor service. Fortunately we have run a high number of similar trips before so I knew what had not been considered, but on every email sent I received an email to give me an agent’s working hours, stating they were only available two days a week. Lots of extra work created to book the experience as we wanted and incorrect assumptions made by the agent. A device sent out to use whilst away, which was dated, not easy to operate without reading a lot of information and added an additional task to post the device back. Poor scheduling on the Saturday with insufficient time for lunch. Poor communication with the coach company who did not have the capacity to fulfil their role fully as we needed. We switched to NST due to their Covid promise but probably won’t use again.

Extremely good value for what was included within the tour. Some good systems in place, for example enabling parents to locate the trip with live updates. I was not happy with the systems in place beforehand. We used the companies site to update traveller information, however it was clunky and outdated and led to several administrative errors which needed addressing on several occasions to ensure that passport details were entered correctly. This was time consuming and I called them on several occasions to sort this out. Despite these efforts on my part, the names and numbers were not always amended and it took relentless chasing to ensure that the details were eventually correct. All in all positive, however I would look to find a way around some of these issues if we used them again in the future.

Overall, the organisation of the event was good and enabled me, as an experienced leader and someone who has spent a lot of time in Paris, to cater the trip to my students needs. This was important as neither the coach driver team nor the local NST representative could offer support. The drivers did not know Paris at all and, had it not been for my experience in some situations, would have caused significant additional walking etc for students when this was not necessary. The local rep was not at all helpful. Disappointing.

Good communication prior to the trip. Everything was booked and sent. We had paper copies as well as it all on a mobile app which made it easy to understand. We were not met at the airport (be were called). I think that this was due to circumstances in Rome (Putin had come to visit the Pope) making it difficult to travel around the city. We were met at the hotel and the trips were described to us and a map provided. I think it would have been nice if the local rep had called or visited everyday to check everything was okay. We only had contact with the local rep on the first day when we arrived only.

Itinery and bus company ordered well. Tracker app and My Tour manager were very useful resources and negated the need for paper work. Unfortunately, some confusion with payment between the hotel and NST resulted in the trip leader having to pay for his room. Also some confusion with the meals voucher and the manager at Pizza Express resulting in a wait period. Better communication between NST and providers would solve this problem.

Easy to communicate with and dealt with all my queries before and during the trip. NST provide a rep to meet you when you arrive at your destination. Previous years I haven’t actually had any contact with one, however this year I was contacted before our departure via text with a time when she was going to meet us at the hotel. The meeting was only brief over dinner but was invaluable to the smooth running of the trip this year. Important information regarding a protest the following day was received which allowed time to alter our plans for the following day with minimum disruption. In future I will ensure communication with a rep is a priority on the first day of check in.

Feedback for school after New York trip These are the main issues we encountered on this trip: • Parents on the trip. I wouldn’t want to ban them, and some of them were very useful and contributed a lot to the trip, but I think it needs to be made clear that there is a group leader who makes the rules and gives the instructions and they need to go along with these and not interfere. Parents are concerned mainly with their own daughters and sometimes made poor decisions that affected the rest of the group. Clear guidelines need to be set and parents might need to be spoken to away from the group on future trips if issues arise. • The first aid kit was unnecessarily bulky, mainly due to a huge number of bandages and tissues inside. We didn’t need that many and actually needed a smaller kit, as the one we were give was too large to carry, bearing in mind all the other things we had to have with us. Suggested items that we really could have used in the first aid kit: • Something to alleviate burns. One pupil burned her ear on a hair straightener. • Sachets of Calpol or similar, as paracetamol are not always easy for pupils to take. • Piriton needs to be clearly labelled. I knew that I was supposed to have it, but I didn’t know what it looked like in the kit. I didn’t realise that it was the same thing as the antihistamine cream that was in the kit. • Be careful of scissors going through security at airport. • I think trip leaders need to be told about potential problems with students right at the beginning of trip planning. We felt that we didn’t have important health information on some of our travelling pupils until much too late in the planning stages. When someone develops a potentially serious condition then her name needs to be flagged for any trips to check commitments rather than wait for the trip planning to be almost finalised. • Helpful things to do on future trips: o Can we put programmes online electronically so that audience members could scan a barcode? It is unrealistic to bring stacks of photocopied paper with us, but an electronic version might be welcome. o Pupils losing their metro cards, music, passports, boarding passes, etc. is always an issue. Any thoughts on how to combat this? They are reminded frequently, but some always forget. o Mobile phones. Is it just the way things are that pupils spend their whole time on their phones rather than enjoying what they’ve paid to come see? Such a shame.   Working with NST. Of all the trips I have run over the years, this was the most successful one so far. I have taken three other similar trips to New York but never had groups perform as part of the trip. This worked very well and the concerts were successfully performed, if not so well attended. Communication with NST before the trip was good and the final trip pack arrived early enough this year, thank you. I love the trip pack that you produce: it was very helpful throughout the trip. You will be aware that there was concern over tipping being mentioned only in the final stages of planning for the trip. Please add this to the initial quote. Laura said that this isn’t possible until the details of the trip are finalised, but you should be able to foresee that each group will need to tip the meet and greet people, the coach driver to and from the airport, and any tour guides we have on the trip. If I’d known about this from the start, I would have built it into the price of the trip. We decided not to use the electronic tracking device provided by NST. With everything else we have to carry for our school, it was just too much. I couldn’t use the NST app in the end, as my phone didn’t work in America. As I said after the Budapest trip, some of the feedback that I’ve read about NST from other music teachers is that there is too much free time on the itinerary. I was quite happy to find things for my group to do when we had free time on our itinerary, but I’m not sure I would be as confident in an unfamiliar location. That said, we hardly had a minute of free time. I think I rather over-scheduled things and we could have used with an hour or two of down-time at our hotel before dinner each day. Transport. Having NST representative meet us at Heathrow was a bonus and we appreciated her help with check-in. She was trying to push us to get pupils to check their luggage before the rest of the group was accounted for, but I insisted that we would all go through together. We had an ESTA problem at the airport and our rep helped us sort it. United Airlines was a great choice. Easy check-in, spacious seats, lots of on-board entertainment, good meals. No complaints. Our coach drivers to and from Newark were very professional and efficient. They earned their tips. Our meet and greet guide never stopped talking throughout the entire journey. After and eight-hour flight, we could have done with a bit of peace and quiet. Local 5 day travel cards were very convenient and we used them a lot. The swipe cards were difficult for pupils to use and we caused lots of blockages at the turnstiles. Nothing really could be done about this, apart from letting group leaders to be prepared for this. Accommodation. Our accommodation, the Courtyard Marriott Midtown East, was superb and certainly the most luxurious I have ever stayed in with a school group. It was very conveniently located to all forms of public transportation and just around the corner from a handy shop. The rooms were spacious and clean, with modern decoration and air conditioning/heating and spectacular views. There was a breakfast buffet available at the hotel and plenty of seating which would have been far more convenient for our group to use; however, I don’t think the experience would have been as nice as eating at the cafes we used (see below). It was a bit of a drag being located on the East side of Manhattan when all of our activities were on the West Side. We lost a lot of time getting to our Times Square restaurant venues because we had to come across the city, but we coped, and the benefits of our luxurious hotel made up for the inconvenience. Concert venues. Our three concerts went well but were disappointingly poorly attended, without exception. Was it the time of day? Lack of publicity? Saint Malachy “The Actors’ Church” – Great location, acoustics, hosts, and piano. Close to our workshops and Broadway area. Less than a dozen people attended our concert. There was a poster outside advertising our concert, which was good and maybe helped to draw in the few people who did come. The tap dance worked great here. The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine. Overwhelmingly grand and inspirational to perform in, but our least well-attended concert. The only people in the audience were those we brought with us. There was one school group touring the cathedral who stopped to listen for a minute or two, but otherwise, it was like a rehearsal. I didn’t see any advertising for our concert outside the cathedral. It was snowing when we performed, which might have kept people away. Our third venue was Riverside Church, which was another good choice of glorious performance space. We were warmly greeted and given a guided tour. It was a boost for our school that the reverend was a woman and the church was such a liberal and inclusive venue. Our audience was a small but appreciative group of retirees, maybe 20 in total. Disappointingly few, considering all the work that went into performing there. Food. A change from Budapest, all the pupils seemed to love every mouthful. Not a single complaint from anyone about any of the food. Our breakfast venues were quirky and very typical New York Diners. I preferred Scotty’s diner because we had our own room that was ready for us when we arrived. Morning Star Café was closer to our hotel but was crowded and we had to wait for people to vacate their tables before we could squeeze in. The manager at Morning Star Café tried to get everyone to pay extra to upgrade the menu, which caused some angst among our group, as we were in a rush after the long wait. That said, the service at both places was extremely friendly and lighting fast, and the food was delicious and plentiful. Both venues are highly recommended. The four ultra-touristy restaurants we were assigned were big hits with our group – noisy, lively, plentiful American food, things to see. They are clearly used to school groups and processed us through quickly and efficiently. I would prefer a more authentic New York meal, but I’m not a teenager. Planet Hollywood had the worst food and probably the worst ambience. I wouldn’t go there again. Pupils liked Ellen’s Stardust Diner the most and the food was better there, as well. The entertainment was fun and high quality. Hard Rock Café and Bubba Gump were also both good. The excursions. Empire State Building. Great. Hardly had to wait at all. Very cold and windy. We didn’t stay long. Manhattan School of Music really inspired our students. I recommend adding them or maybe Juilliard to your list of things to do. They gave us a tour and we sat in on a choir rehearsal. They had a great gift shop, as well. Museum of Modern Art was spectacular. Many of our students actually based their coursework on paintings that were on display there. Stage Combat. A great class and the leader granted my wish to have pupils mix partners so they weren’t always stuck with the same person. I’ve done this class many times and this one wasn’t as focused as usual. It was lots of little moves taught one by one. Usually they build up to a fight sequence which is shown to the rest of the group. Our group of girls mainly giggled and didn’t really engage as much as other groups I’ve taken. The class only lasted an hour before they brought in one of the Aladdin cast to talk to the group and answer questions. This was very informative and enjoyable. Step By Step. We thought the stage combat class was good, but this class was exceptionally good. Our instructor, another from the Aladdin cast, was a true teacher and fabulous dancer and the group was inspired and achieved some very advanced goals. Aladdin. A real crowdpleasing blockbuster of a show. The pupils loved it. We were really far away from the stage, but the view was okay. Summary. This was a fantastic trip that definitely exceeded my expectations. NST really delivered on so many areas and the concert venues and restaurants were unforgettable for staff and students alike. I am certainly looking forward to my next trip with NST: Amsterdam, July 2020? - George Tinsley

NST organised a good itinerary which included support staff at either end of our journey. Linda Hyams (tour manager) was extremely helpful, especially when it came to the late drop-outs. Their trip folder was also of use. Only one note of concern was the Berlin Olympic Stadium which was closed, meaning our 1 hour planned tour was cancelled. This was due to a football match which NST should have known about and contact us in advance. If we ran it again we would follow a very similar itinerary. Excellent hotel, superb museums and great food. Only change would be the walking tour which was below standard and too long. All in all a superb trip!

Most things were very well organised and a lot of support was given before and throughout the trip, especially in dealing with last-minute changes (due to the demonstrations taking place in the city). The hotel, however, was not suitable for children as the windows had no safety catches. Disappointing that they thought this would be safe but they did ensure that we were moved to a much better hotel the following day. The second hotel they provided us with was much more secure and safety was greatly improved. Staff were very helpful in dealing with any problems/ questions that arose during the trip. Due to the demonstrations in the city, our itinerery had to be changed the day we were travelling to France. NST kindly covered the cost of the Cité des Sciences, which had not previously been on our itinerary, so that students would be safe indoors. Students enjoyed all activities.

I would ideally give 4 1/2 stars! Our experience with NST was very positive and they helped us to organise all of the arrangements and even managed to sort any last minute changes. The trip was excellent and highly praised by pupils. We enjoyed having the flexibility to alter our itinerary in the initial stages. The accommodation was suitable for our group and all necessary services were provided. The only small inconveniences were that I was sent a cabin booking form and filled it out as required on My Tour Manager, but then because we took daytime ferries the form was not required (wasted over an hour!). The hostel did not have all of the exact rooms as available on the rooming form I was sent, but they did re-accommodate another guest so that we had enough rooms for all of our group. The bus drivers were excellent and very flexible to our group's needs. However, there were some moments where communication between NST and Parks hadn't been totally clear and the drivers were asking me odd questions about accommodation, meals, timings, etc. Nevertheless, we worked around these issues together. We are pleased with the outcome of the trip and have booked with NST again for a trip to Spain next year.

Some planning issues - i.e. agent said that an item had been included in cost and then said that it wasn't. In addition, when we arrived at Disney we had the wrong tickets and had to negotiate hard to get these corrected. NST have sent us money and gift card as compensation. The latter will reduce a small amount of the overall trip cost next year.
