The living, breathing forest is a versatile learning space, with room to think and space to explore. Give your class the opportunity to become rangers for the day with our easy-to-use, self-contained Ranger in a Bag. Our bags support you to deliver learning about forests at your own pace with experiential activities, scenarios and role play. Packed with practical tasks, they are curriculum linked and flexible to fit a range of learning outcomes. With four different themes to choose from, Trainee Forester, Woodland Artist, Wellbeing Champion and Ecologist ( Minibeasts), each bag contains • Equipment, games and resources • Activity sheets and instructions • Health and safety guidance • Plenary activities. We recommend half a day to get the most out of this activity. If you’re planning a full day visit, you can add a second bag, or use our free downloadable learning resources. Ranger in a Bag is suitable for children aged 4 – 11, with enough resources for 35 children.

Help your class discover the forest and deepen their connection to nature with Sensory Explorer. Sensory Explorer includes complete, easy-to-follow instructions and enough activity equipment for 35 children. Work through a series of fun and engaging activities all with clear learning outcomes and early year framework/curriculum links.
Ranger in a Bag and Sensory Explorer cost £35 +VAT for the first bag £50 +VAT for 2 bags £65 +VAT for 3 bags. Available year round, book by emailing wyre@forestryengland.uk Free pre-visit sessions with a member of Forestry England staff can help you plan your visit, go through the backpacks and look around the site (subject to availability).

Forester Richard gave excellent talk about management of forest

Well organised, staff were very knowledgeable and made sure children knew how to keep safe. They interacted well at an age appropriate level for the children. Excellent facilities for lunches and the cloakroom made it easy to store coats, bags etc when needed.

Amazing day. Children fully engaged with the wide range of activities. Well supported with guides and activity leaders. Good adventure day - kids enjoyed the freedom of outdoor learning.
