From 3-day to 10-day school residentials in South West England, as well as immersive geography, biology and environmental Studies programmes, The Bioasis offers a diverse range of mission-based school trips and expeditions.
Schools benefit from the sole use of their dedicated basecamp accommodation, providing privacy and exclusivity for the group. Each basecamp is equipped with fresh running water and hot showers, ensuring comfort throughout the stay. Additionally, a dedicated cook prepares delicious, locally sourced meals tailored to meet all dietary requirements, allowing everyone to focus on the experience without worry.
Blending a wide array of skills and activities, students can engage in everything from off-grid living and maths code-breaking to archery, cooking, biodiversity monitoring, canoe expeditions, and river clean-ups. Each experience is thoughtfully curated and expertly delivered, fostering adventure, learning, and environmental stewardship.

The Bioasis offers a range of immersive, educational activities designed to reconnect participants with nature and promote sustainability. Key activities include:
Conservation: Engage in environmental clean-ups, wildlife surveys, and the removal of invasive species like Himalayan Balsam or Rhododendron.
Adventure: Including canoeing, navigation exercises and archery.
Wildlife Monitoring: Conduct bat and moth surveys, learn to use small mammal traps, set up and check wildlife trail cameras, and perform biodiversity assessments to monitor local fauna.
Team-Building Exercises: Problem-solving tasks to enhance teamwork and leadership skills.
These activities are set within 1,200 acres of diverse landscapes, including woodlands, wildflower meadows, and salt marshes, providing a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience in a living, breathing classroom.
This is a school trip like no other. From the moment your school books The Bioasis, both you and your students will be fully immersed in a mission-driven experience before, during, and after the trip. This journey will transform the way your students think, helping them develop resilience and enhance their character. Additionally, our trip supports schools in fulfilling their obligations related to ESG strategies and the climate literacy goals of the school.

Each of our off-grid basecamps feature a full field kitchen, sheltered communal area, fire pit for discussions and marshmallow toasting, composting toilets, hot showers, running water, and spacious accommodation tents. The camps are surrounded by woodlands and wildflowers with plenty of space for games, activities and stunning sunset views.
Teachers and group leaders enjoy private bell tents equipped with a camp bed, lantern and small side table, ensuring comfort during the stay.
Students share large accommodation tents, typically housing 8–10 participants. Each tent includes camp beds, but students must bring their own roll mats and 4-season sleeping bags for added comfort. Pillows are not provided, so feel free to bring one!
We recommend students bring comfortable outdoor clothing, waterproof jackets and trousers, sturdy footwear, and a warm 4-season sleeping bag. Additional essentials include toiletries, a roll mat, and optional items like pillows. A full packing list will be provided before the trip.
Our location is based in Devon, South West England but the exact location is a well-kept secret! Students will need to crack the pre-mission cypher to discover our whereabouts and their mission start point. Teachers will be given the drop off location and basecamp location details when booking.
Yes! All basecamps have hot showers available in individual cubicles, providing comfort and privacy while being surrounded by nature.
Yes, we cater to all dietary requirements, including allergies, religious preferences, and vegetarian or vegan diets. Our food is freshly prepared at each basecamp. Food is healthy and nutritious, with ingredients sourced locally where possible. We source our vegetables from Riverford Organic. Please inform us of dietary needs in advance.
While there is no dedicated Wi-Fi, most basecamps have excellent 5G phone signal for teachers to hotspot their devices. However, we maintain a phone-free policy for students and young people to encourage full immersion in the experience.
The allocation of student tents is at the discretion of trip leaders. We provide the tents and support leaders in making arrangements.
At The Bioasis, students participate in a variety of exciting outdoor adventure, educational and conservation related activities. Depending on the programme, activities may include paddling with The Boat People to retrieve hidden information, training with The Bioasis Defence Force, conducting nature surveys, learning bushcraft skills, animal tracking, conservation tasks, bat walks, wide games at sunset, and morse code mission messaging. Every residential trip is packed with adventure, fun and a few surprises!
Rain rarely stops our activities, but strong winds may impact canoeing or woodland tasks. Students should pack good waterproof clothing and sturdy boots to ensure safety and comfort. If weather limits certain activities, alternative programmes and plenty of hot chocolate are provided 😁
Bioasis Missions are designed for students in Years 7–13, with programmes tailored to fit specific age groups. Our ‘Extreme’ programme is exclusively for ages 16+ to ensure it matches the capability and maturity of participants. All activities are age-appropriate and align with learning objectives.
Group sizes depend on your chosen activities and programme. For larger groups, we may divide participants into smaller teams to ensure safety and high-quality experiences. We currently have capacity for approximately 120 students on site at any one time. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.
The Bioasis is home to a variety of wildlife, including foxes, badgers, roe deer, stoats, raptors, owls, amphibians and more. As part of your mission, you’ll use biodiversity monitoring tools like trail cameras, small mammal traps, and bat detectors to study local fauna, providing unique learning opportunities.
Our residential programmes are designed to complement the school curriculum by fostering teamwork, collaboration, leadership, and environmental awareness. Through activities aligned with the geography, biology, and environmental science curriculums, we promote not only academic learning but also resilience, problem-solving, and teamwork.
These experiences, which are assessed against LOtC (Learning Outside the Classroom) Quality Badge standards, ensure that students engage in educational outdoor activities that are safe, enriching, and aligned with national learning goals.
At The Bioasis, safety is our top priority. All activities are led by qualified, trained staff who hold certifications including 16-hour Outdoor First Aid, Food Hygiene, FSA Allergy Awareness, and relevant outdoor and adventure qualifications. In addition, all staff members undergo enhanced DBS checks.
We adhere to the rigorous safety standards set by BAPA (British Activity Providers Association) and AALA (Adventure Activity Licensing Authority), ensuring that our activities meet high safety and quality benchmarks. Comprehensive risk assessments are conducted for each activity, and staff are available 24/7 on-site to manage safety and offer support when needed. This commitment to safety provides peace of mind for both participants and their guardians.
The Bioasis operates on a private estate with controlled access. We maintain a strict visitor and security policy to safeguard all participants, ensuring a secure environment. We follow a safer recruitment policy and have good safeguarding protocols and systems in place. Please contact us for a copy of our safeguarding policy.
Our Mission Team members are experts in their fields and undergo rigorous in-house training to ensure they are ‘mission-ready’. All staff hold a 16-hour Outdoor First Aid certification, Level 2 Food Hygiene, FSA Allergy Awareness training, and Enhanced DBS clearance. Amongst our team are Mountain Leaders, ecologists, bushcraft specialist, executive coaches, trackers, paddlesport leaders and more. Rest assured you’re in capable and inspiring hands throughout your trip.
Bioasis staff are on site and available overnight in the case of an emergency. A member of Bioasis Senior Management is always on duty should the need arise. Any issues are promptly addressed, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable trip for everyone. We have established Evacuation and Emergency Response Plans for each basecamp. Our Mission Team supports your group every step of the way, from arrival to departure. They lead activities, ensure safety and ensure every students gets the most from the programme. Teachers assist with pastoral care and behaviour management while our staff handle everything else.
