Fishers Mobile Farm – we bring our farm to you!
We are based in Charnock Richard in Lancashire & we take our Mobile Farm to schools to meet children, some of whom have never seen or touched a farm animal before. In the last two years we reckon we have showed our animals to about 10,000 children in around 67 schools across the North West.
Depending on a school’s budget, we can bring either one or two trailers with sheep, lambs, goats, kids, calf, donkeys, pony, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, hens, chicks & pigs – all very friendly, used to meeting children & fairly bomb proof!!
Classes usually are split into smaller groups as the children are easier to manage (a big group of excited children is more difficult to communicate with than a smaller group of just as excited children!). After a short Health & Safety chat, Fishers Mobile Farm staff will then introduce the animals to the group. All the children can stroke the animals & we can show them the calf’s hooves, the sheep’s teeth (always a favourite!) & lambs or kids drinking milk from their mothers. Throughout the visit we will ask the children questions – for example, what is a baby cow called? What do chickens/cows produce for us to eat? What can we make from the fleece of a sheep? We can tailor our questions to tie in with school projects if you let us know beforehand.
Last year we were also commended by the Bayer/FACE (Farming and Countryside Education) awards & this year we are now holders of the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge. We are also have CEVAS trained personnel (Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme).
