Operation Wallacea runs a series of biological and conservation management expeditions that operate in remote locations around the world.
Our expeditions are designed with specific wildlife conservation aims in mind - from identifying areas needing protection, through to implementing and assessing conservation management programmes. The surveys have resulted in over 700 publications in peer-reviewed journals and led to the discovery of over 80 new species to science and $2 million levered from funding agencies to set up best practice management examples at study sites.
Groups of sixth form/high school students can join these biodiversity survey expeditions as part of groups lead by teachers for two weeks and help with real world conservation research and expand their knowledge outside of the classroom.
Your students will get the opportunity to work along side a range of field scientists and academics, and also will take part in a lecture series, covering many key concepts of biology, geography and environmental sciences and learn to dive. Our field sites run during the summer months and we work across the world: Bay Islands, Croatia, Honduras, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mexico, Peru, Romania and South Africa.
We also run a field courses in the United Kingdom at the Knepp Estate in West Sussex. This course allows students to learn about current field techniques as well as networking with like minded individuals. This site is open to groups lead by teachers or individual students.
We can also offer shorter expeditions and bespoke itineraries, as well as classroom resources so all students can benefit.
