Living Classroom at Kelvingrove 2013/2014
OVERVIEW
Run in conjunction with Kelvingrove Museum Education Service, the programme has been designed to complement the service offered by the museum. The topics can be adapted to suit your needs. All sessions can be adapted for Additional Support for Learning (ASL). In the event of exceptionally bad weather the session will be adapted to run in the museum. The site has been externally verified to ensure that we are providing high quality learning experiences and managing safety effectively via the LOtC Quality Badge scheme.
PROGRAMME
Story in the Park N1-P1 Join us on a multi-sensory journey of discovery through Kelvingrove Park’s past right up to present day, interacting with colourful characters and hand-on activities along the way. CFE: SCN 0-12a, LIT 0-04a Conservation – Giving Nature a Home P4 – P7 Imagine you are now the warden of the new ‘Kelvingrove Park Nature Reserve.’ You will investigate the biodiversity in this special area, discuss the endangered species and discover what the RSPB and we all can do to help give nature a home. CFE: SCN 2-02a, SOC 2-08a Bird Detectives P1–P7 Children will look at the adaptations of some common woodland birds and water birds found in the park. Following an introduction to bird identification, they will investigate the birds’ eating habits and how these are linked to their different habitats and to the park’s food chains. CFE: SCN 1-01a, SCN 2-01a Wild City P1–P7 This is a great opportunity for pupils to encounter the amazing variety of wildlife that shares their urban environment. They will discover how different species survive city life and then – through fun interactive games – learn how different creatures are interdependent. CFE: SCN 2-01a, SCN 2-02a Woodlands P3–P7 Children will investigate the parts, functions and life cycles of trees and have fun learning how to age them. They will investigate the variety of species found within the park and discuss how woodlands are important. CFE: SCN 1-14a, SCN 2-14a
