Paxton House is run by a board of trustees. Paxton Trust, a registered charity, manages the property, combining objectives of preservation, access, education and social welfare. The Trust is responsible for a range of national assets, provides work for 8 people, 15 seasonal workers, 34 volunteers and contractors.

Paxton House one of the finest palladin houses in the country designed to show the wealth and position of Patrick Home who inherited a fortune from his parents in 1750 during the reign of George 11
In 1773 it was owned by Ninian Home who was a plantation owner in the West Indies. He owned 2 sugar plantation in Granada. He was caught and executed during the revolution in 1795
In 1998 the current owner John Home Robinson gave the house, its contents and 80 acres of grounds to the people.
It is now run by the Paxton Trust which is an independent charity.
Paxton House is home to 2 pre-eminent nationally important collections of furniture – our Chippendale and trotter collections. We also have an opulent picture gallery with a superb collection of paintings from the nation Galleries of Scotland.
There are 80 acres of grounds with paths that wind through a shady woodland with many specimen trees down to the River Tweed, There is a landscaped garden with many Himalayan plant species.
We offer a range of trails, some seasonal. Family activities, school visits, house tours and organise key events such as weddings and season activities.
