Curriculum Outdoor Learning for Primary Schools

Description

Alfresco Learning is an outdoor learning company, created by former primary teachers, dedicated to bringing the National Curriculum together with outdoor learning to develop an inclusive approach and provide memorable learning experiences for all children. We do this through our children's workshops, staff training and online resource hub filled with outdoor lesson plans for Reception- Year 6.

Children's Outdoor Workshops, delivered across Yorkshire.
These take place in your very own school grounds. We will visit your school with all the resources needed to deliver the session and risk assessments completed for you, so you can enjoy hours of outdoor fun with your children to engage them in their topic!

Current workshop offerings include:
KS1 (Year 1 & 2)
The Great Fire of London - exploring the building methods and materials used at the time of the fire, and combing this with a science investigation into materials to build Thomas Farriner a brand new bakery!

Castles (Kings & Queens) - looking at castle structures and features and who lived there, your children will have the opportunity to collaborate on building a class castle, as well as getting hands-on with nature to create their own cloth flags!

Space Explorers - combing Maths and History to find out facts about your chosen explorer, such as Neil Armstrong, this workshops gives your children the chance to launch their very own rockets, investigating how the amount of fuel changes the distance of launch! They'll also have the chance to complete some constellation artwork based on the stars your chosen explorer will have seen in space.

Seaside holidays from the past - a chance to look at steam engines from the Victorian era, using this as inspiration for building small world rafts, play traditional seaside games and explore real seaweed to create their own artwork and learn how people showcased their holidays in their homes!

KS2 (Years 3, 4, 5 & 6)
Space Explorers - children will have fun launching their own rockets into space, but have a stronger focus on the science involved in doing so, through creating their own investigations into rocket fuel and distance and using this to try and land accurately on different planets (within your outdoor space!).

Castles - a closer look at the features of castles and their many uses, children will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge of how castles were structured by building one in a group and working together to decide on the features they need to create based on its use.

Ancient Egyptians - Launching soon!

We also offer Inset training days, across the UK, that inspire and empower your team to transform their everyday lessons using the outdoor environment to deliver National Curriculum objectives. We cover everything from risk assessing to effective outdoor activity ideas across the primary curriculum, as well as building staff awareness of the importance of outdoor learning.
