First World War Centenary Battlefield Tours Programme

FREE government funded battlefield tours

Description

An exciting opportunity for all state funded secondary and middle schools in England to take part in a fully funded First World War centenary project. Schools send two students and one teacher (two teachers if a PRU or SEN establishment) on a free four day battlefields tour to Ypres and The Somme, with free CPD for the attending teacher. Delivered by UCL Institute of Education, the programme is unique and provides a great networking opportunity.

Choose from a History or English Literature focused itinerary.

Exclusive tour dates can be made available for entire Teaching School Alliances or Academy Chains to travel together (up to 15 schools per coach).

To register, go to www.centenarybattlefieldtours.org and state your Alliance or Chain or email ww1enquiries@ucl.ac.uk. The programme runs until spring 2019 - so register today before it's too late.

The post-tour community project is a fantastic way to engage schools from the same region, network or chain in a cross-school initiative.

Excellent trip - informative and thought provoking for both students and staff (February 2020 - Secondary School)

Well structured and well organised by UCL (January 2020 - Secondary School)

The programme was fantastic. Students had an excellent time. It was organised and carried out very professionally, and the students were encouraged to think carefully about lots of aspects of WWI. (January 2020 - Secondary School)

(November 2019 - Secondary School)

(March 2019 - Secondary School)

(December 2018)

(December 2018 - Secondary School)

Fabulous- the two students I took really enjoyed it and got a lot from it. Well organised with good input from the tour guide and soldier who led the tour (November 2018 - Secondary School)

Fantastic provider - very knowledgeable and the visit was very well organised (November 2018 - Secondary School)

A worthwhile experience. The students were very engaged (October 2018 - Secondary School)

One student wrote: “The 2018 Centenary battlefield tour was single-handedly the most moving and emotional experience of my life” (April 2018 - Secondary School)

(April 2018 - Secondary School)

This programme was the best I have ever been on, the connection to local history was immensely valuable. Both my students and myself felt very privileged to be a part of the experience. (March 2018 - Secondary School)

The FWWCBT and the support provided by the Equity rep was excellent. However, the Kingswood Hall accommodation and staffing provision was below the standard I would expect. (March 2018 - Secondary School)

Excellent, very enjoyable and informative, well organised trip. (February 2018 - Secondary School)
