Excellent staff and facilities. Only downside was that the students didn't receive their luggage until late on the first day. Staff at bushcraft informed and feedback given on feedback questionnaire and sent to head office. (November 2019 - Secondary School)

Overall this was an excellent trip. As it was our first time with the Bushcraft company and visiting Cholmondeley there was a steep learning curve. Some activities need to be tweaked to at their best. The fire lighting at the beginning of the trip was great. The children made their own fires then cooked burgers for their lunch and thoroughly enjoyed that. The fire lighting at the back end of the trip in 'Bushcraft challenge' was far more difficult due to rain during the night. If we went again, I would ensure enough tinder was put to one side to ensure the children did not struggle so much. At 10/11yrs they soon got bored of trying to light their fires and I ended up doing it for them. Older children would perhaps be more likely to take on the challenge of trying to light wet tinder, but the age group we took soon came to the conclusion that 'its wet so it won't light.' The wilderness first aid could do with more appropriate equipment. Some simple first aid kits, bandages, wipes, para cord etc that the children should be given before commencement of this activity so they are not trying to (for example) keep a broken leg still with two sticks and a piece of tree root. I know when I am out walking I take a first aid kit with me. A small one, but nevertheless I take one. It would have been an excellent activity if the children had been given the chance to at least look through one. The children really enjoyed the evening activities. Lots of fun games. The food (despite it being a single cook, working on two rings in the middle of a forest) was excellent. Plenty of freshly cooked meals to keep everyone happy. The staff were exceptional. They worked tirelessly to ensure our children and staff had the very best experience they could offer them. Had they been provided with the equipment mentioned above and been able to work fully to their strengths this trip would have been given 5 stars. One other point that must be mentioned. There are large numbers of biting insects throughout the forest. I feel it is essential that permission be sought from all parents to be able to offer children some form of antihistamine. That and that children and staff bring some sort of repellent. Outdoor shops sell this. I would recommend using this sight and company, but please do take into account all I have mentioned above.
