Milestones, Hampshire’s Living History Museum

Description

Immerse yourself in the past at Milestones, Hampshire’s museum of living history. Explore the museum’s streets, shops and buildings to discover how people used to live, buy a ration of sweets from our 1940s sweet shop, view our unique collection of vintage vehicles and have a go in our penny arcade!

Your trip to Hampshire past will take you as far back as the age of the Victorians, with cobbled streets, a replica Victorian school room – complete with chalkboard and teacher’s desk – and even a working printing press. Throughout the year, we run a programme of fun, family-friendly events and exhibitions.

(October 2024 - Primary School)

We visited for a KS2 History workshop but they also provide workshops for KS1 which I believe would be of equally high quality. (October 2024 - Primary School)

Very well organised, lovely venue. Lucky in that we were the only school, may be chaotic if they allowed 3 or 4 schools so worth checking at time of booking if they allow this. (March 2024 - Primary School)

Unfortunately there was a break down in communication regarding our entrance time and we ended up being allowed in only a few minutes before our session started. (April 2023 - Primary School)

(March 2023 - Primary School)

(February 2023 - Primary School)

The museum is very well resourced and layed out. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable> all the amenities are clean and useful apart from the taps which were difficult for the younger pupils to use independently. (January 2023 - Primary School)

My class really enjoyed the challenge of the Lego Mindstorm Workshop. (January 2023 - Primary School)

(December 2022 - Primary School)

(October 2022 - Primary School)

Very well organised venue and nice lunch room with drink facilities for adults and toilets not shared by the public (sometimes school groups will have to use a different room with main toilets). Museum very clean, spacious and safety instructions made clear. The learning provided in the 'toy workshop' was enjoyable for the children and they were well engaged - however the experiences were things that we could easily recreate at school so the museum might be more suitable for exploring on your own - for a different topic of history (vehicles, Victorian school and clothes etc) (September 2022 - Primary School)

The workshops were well lead and very appropriate for what we needed. Great day. (September 2022 - Primary School)

(July 2022 - Primary School)

(June 2022 - Primary School)

We really enjoyed the trip. The exhibitions were great and the workshops were very well planned. (May 2022 - Primary School)

Excellent Museum. Fun and informative expert lead sessions. Facilities are ideal with lunch rooms, plenty of toilets and space. All the support you might need from enquiry through to the actual visit. (March 2022 - Primary School)

(March 2022 - Primary School)

The event was well organised and engaged the children. It was perfect for our topic of History of Transport. (March 2022 - Primary School)

(January 2022 - Primary School)

(October 2021 - Primary School)

A great venue - perfect for a history topic on toys. (September 2020 - Primary School)

(February 2020 - Primary School)

The venue was great and the children really enjoyed exploring the different vehicles. The children loved using the clue cards to discover facts about different vehicles. (April 2019 - Primary School)

Very well organised, staff very helpful and children had a great time exploring and learning during the workshops. (March 2019 - Primary School)

The museum is well organised for school trips with good facilities. The people we thought would be leading the sessions only organised the timings and adult helpers had to lead the activities. If we had known this beforehand we would have tried to find a way of better preparing them. (March 2019 - Primary School)

An excellent visit which enhanced the children's knowledge of the 1930s wartime era. (March 2019 - Primary School)

An excellent venue well set up to support children's learning (January 2019 - Primary School)

(November 2018 - Primary School)

The children were able to gain an insight into many elements about the past. They could participate in games and were very keen to share and participate in these once we returned to school. The staff were very welcoming and ensured that children made the most out of their sessions. (October 2018 - Primary School)
