Field Studies Council - Rhyd-y-creuau

Leading Provider of Geography and Science (Biology) Fieldwork

Description

The Field Studies Council is a charity that aims to bring environmental understanding to all. We believe the more we know about and take inspiration from the world around us the more we can appreciate its needs and protect its diversity and beauty for future generations.

One of the many ways we do this is by providing well-designed, expertly delivered educational experiences for school groups, set in some of the UK's most stunning locations. Each year over 3,000 school groups, from key stage 1 to university level, visit our centres for geography or science (biology) fieldwork and cross-curricular environmental activity courses.

From the Draper's Field Centre you can explore the diverse habitats and environments of Snowdonia National Park; from glaciated valleys, rivers and wooded hillsides to dramatic coasts and sand dune ecosystems. The centre itself is a Georgian house set in two hectares of wooded grounds with Eco-Centre status, allowing you to experience a sustainable lifestyle, only 1 hour 50 minutes from Manchester and 3 hours 40 minutes from the M25.

Excellent venue providing fantastic service to our groups needs (and superb food). Make sure to request your subject specialism from a tutor or the knowledge can be lower. (November 2023)

Excellent provision of all services, venue facilities and curriculum delivery. Would recommend. To note. Communication was slower and not as effective as previously, but this was due to new staff and IT systems in place which no doubt will be resolved quickly. (November 2021 - Secondary School)

The centre helped us to fulfil the A-level requirement for 4 days of fieldwork for A-level Geography. Students developed a range of data collection techniques and many collected data for their NEAs. (November 2021 - Secondary School)

Overall the centre was adequate and well eqipped. The location is excellent, and the tutor was certainly above average from what you coudl expect. There were issues. The organisation in the lead up to the visit was very last minute at thier end, the arrival was facilitated by a quite clueless member of staff, and there were times when the judgement of the field tutor from a H&S perspective were sub-optimal.
