The venue is great for access by train to York. The train exhibits show how trains have developed through the ages. The model railway is fun too - the children liked looking at the surroundings and watching the trains go round. Having iconic, historic trains brought our learning about trains to life.
The timings were just long enough - 1 hour to go round the main gallery and complete our object hunt.
The staff were friendly and helpful including having reserving lunch benches in the main gallery for us.

This was a great day- appropriate to our 5/6 year olds. Education sessions were appropriately pitched, fun and informative and the museum itself supported independent exploration of some fantastic exhibits. The miniature train ride completed our day perfectly.

Staff were very helpful and all of the workshops were very informative. Would have liked more time there so would set off from school much earlier next time.

Although the museum was busy, there was ample space around the exhibits for the young people to look at the trains . It is free and the admission procedure was swift and pleasant. The toilets were clean and there were enough so that queues were not long.

The exhibition we went to see was closed without advanced warning. The rest of the museum is good but unrelated to our study.

The trip went very well. The girls loved looking at all the different kind of trains- old and new. Maybe consider girls taking their own backpacks with lunches in next year if this trip is repeated. Also maybe add a treasure hunt of things to find in museum while exploring.

Brilliant museum with plenty to see and do. The children loved sitting in the different types of trains and comparing them all. Fantastic workshops which held the children's attention well.

Maps not up to date, lack of space to congregate on arrival in reception, but exhibits were excellent and all staff were helpful and approachable.
