Weald and Downland Living Museum

Don't just learn about history EXPERIENCE IT!

Description

At the Weald & Downland Living Museum we offer countless exciting learning opportunities for students of all ages, and educational provision is key to our Museum's mission.

Our beautiful site has rescued buildings that date from between c.950 to c.1910 and these provide opportunities for cross-curricular learning, from an Anglo-Saxon hall house set in woodland, to a pair of Victorian cottages.

We were one of the first sites in the country to be awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge and, in 2017, were re-awarded the Sandford Award for Heritage Learning. We offer museum-led workshops and activities to support children's learning and development; teacher-led visits are also possible.

The workshops were well run and the volunteers were knowledgeable and keen to answer the children's questions (April 2024 - Primary School)

(March 2024 - Secondary School)

More room for lunch would be helpful and a secure place to store children's belongings for the day. (November 2023 - Primary School)

(October 2023 - Secondary School)

This is a lovely outdoor museum with reconstructed buildings from different periods in history. It is therefore most appropriate for anyone who is looking for somewhere pupils can compare styles of buildings and their construction including materials and tools used.
