Field Studies Council - Malham Tarn

Leading Provider of Geography and Science (Biology) Fieldwork

Description

FSC is a charity that aims to bring environmental understanding to all. We believe the more we know about and take inspiration from the world around us the more we can appreciate its needs and protect its diversity and beauty for future generations.

One of the many ways we do this is by providing well-designed, expertly delivered educational experiences for school groups, set in some of the UK's most stunning locations. Each year over 3,000 school groups, from key stage 1 to university level, visit our centres for geography or science (biology) fieldwork and cross-curricular environmental activity courses.

FSC's Malham Tarn centre is set in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and occupies a large Georgian country house, leased from the National Trust. It is the focus of an internationally important National Nature Reserve and the Tarn itself is one of only eight upland alkaline lakes in Europe.

They are closing the centre. Very sad. (November 2022 - Secondary School)

One of the best visits to Malham we have had. Superb tuition. (July 2022 - Secondary School)

(May 2022 - Primary School)

(May 2022 - Primary School)

(April 2022 - Primary School)

I can highly recommend this centre and the residential experience the children and staff were well looked after and developed so many new skills. (March 2022 - Primary School)

The residential was an enjoyable experience for all. The children were enthusiastic and flourished whilst learning outdoors. The facilities at the centre were very clean and to a high standard. The staff were very friendly and helpful. (March 2022 - Primary School)

(March 2021 - Secondary School)

Excellent understanding of examination requirements (April 2020 - Secondary School)

The setting is brilliant with amazing views of the tarn. Everything you need to cover the ecology part of the A-level spec is literally on their doorstep. We had two tutors while we were there and both were extremely knowledgable and good at getting the pupils to understand difficult concepts including statistics. (October 2019 - Secondary School)

(September 2019 - Primary School)

(March 2019 - Secondary School)

(February 2019 - Secondary School)

Very friendly staff, one excellent tutor and the other 3 still developing their skills. There were some issue with a power cut and lack of water afterwards, but this was a problem from outside the centre and was solved relatively quickly. (July 2018 - Secondary School)

(May 2018 - Secondary School)

The layout of the staff rooms in relation to the children's rooms meant that some children's room were away from teachers overnight. Children could lock rooms from the inside and in an emergency this could delay staff getting into the rooms. (April 2018 - Primary School)

Excellent experience, the children were fully engaged in all activities and dietary requirements met. (April 2018 - Primary School)
