'Bringing the Marine Curriclum Alive'
Description
The National Marine Aquarium is a charity with a mission to ‘Drive Marine Conservation through Engagement’. We're committed to conserving the marine environment and inspiring others to do the same. This moulds our exhibits and education programmes as well as driving our conservation and research projects. We are the UK's largest aquarium with over 50 stunning tanks including three enormous “ecosystem” displays.
Learning at the National Marine Aquarium – Just Add H2O
The National Marine Aquarium is the focal point for the Just Add H2O Learning Programme. Our aim is simple: to enable as many children and young people as possible the opportunity to discover and learn through the inspiring marine environment.
Just add H2O is a partnership between the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth City Council, the University of Plymouth, Plymouth Marine Sciences Partnership (PMSP) and Marine Academy Plymouth (MAP). Just Add H2O offers curriculum-focussed experiential learning programmes across a broad range of subjects for students from pre-school to Postgraduate level using marine topics and examples as inspiration.
The Just add H2O partners have created a broad range of curriculum-focussed workshops and programmes that use the Aquarium exhibits as an inspiration for effective out-of-school learning and in-school activities. Here, the awe-inspiring exhibits, featuring marine animals from near and far, provide an environment that intrigues, inspires and motivates students of all ages and a platform for discovery-based learning. A visit to the Aquarium can be a great day out but, far more importantly, if planned effectively, can support and enrich a students education.
The National Marine Aquarium has two dedicated learning centres – the Discovery Creative Centre and the Just Add H2O Headquarters that features a video production studio, “wet-lab” and science performance stage as well as a wealth of resources to support learning.
