We are Field Studies Council, an environmental charity and leaders in outdoor education. We want to inspire your pupils with innovative teaching, and explore diverse learning environments together, to encourage them to care for our natural world.
Castle Head is an impressive Georgian house situated in 20 hectares of extensive private grounds in beautiful South Cumbria between the coast of Morecambe Bay and the Lake District National Park.
The Centre is easily accessible by both road and rail. There is easy access to both the coastline of Morecambe Bay, the glaciated uplands of the southern Lake District and the lakes of Windermere and Coniston. It’s ideally situated for a wide range of both field studies and adventurous activities.
Castle Head offers a huge range of exciting outdoor adventure activities to suit all ages and abilities with raft building, canoeing, ghyll-scrambing, low and high ropes, mine exploration, an obstacle course and much more.
Each year over 3,000 school groups, from key stage 1 to university level, visit our centres for geography or science (biology) fieldwork, cross-curricular environmental activity courses, plus outdoor adventure.
Let our education team help transform your classroom theory into real subject knowledge, and harness the adventure found in nature, through hands-on experiences. We live and breathe outdoor education, and want to share our passion with your pupils.
