Description

When choosing a school trip provider we know that you are looking for three main things;

1) Educational value
2) A supportive and trustworthy team
3) Value for money

Discover the World Education ticks every box.

We have over 35 years’ experience organising inspirational and educational travel. Our customers trust us to supply safe, quality and exciting tours that are in equal parts academic and enjoyable for every member of the group. We have hand-picked and personally checked our destinations and activities thoroughly, to ensure that you have the trip of a lifetime!

Our family run business began with just one thing, a love for travel. This passion has never wavered as the business has grown.

Today, Discover the World Education has a team of dedicated travel specialists, including former teachers and destination experts, who help schools through the trip planning process and are on hand to support you 24/7 during your trip.

We offer a select range of destinations that have been truly tested by our specialists. Itineraries for these destinations can be tailor made with our range of activities and accommodation. We have the largest range of activities in our most popular destination, Iceland, including the exclusive Icelandic Lava Show.

We are proud of our role in the geography teaching community. We create a wide range of classroom resources, videos and posters, all of which are free to teachers. We also host the Facebook group Geography Teacher Zone, a platform to bridge the gap between topical geography news and the curriculum. Depending on your destination choice you may also be guided by one of our UK qualified and highly experienced Teacher Tour Leaders.

We work collaboratively with other members of the geography community. For example, we are strategic partnership with the Geographical Association to help to make the benefits of international field studies more accessible to geography students, both inside and outside the classroom and our partnership with the Field Studies Council to offer a brand new, exclusive range of geography and science fieldwork opportunities in Iceland.

The Azores is a fantastic location for Biological and Geographical school trips. The variety of ecosystems and clear signs of biological processes from succession to Eutrophication. (July 2023 - Secondary School)

Beautiful environment, excellent guide and superbly run activities with highest standards for safety and skill training. Brilliant awe and wonder experience for students to see the scale of landforms and environmental quality. Excellent learning opportunities and pastoral development too through mixing between year groups. Activities were confidence building but non competitive; collaboration in rafting was promoted too- huge sense of acheivement shared by our students. Trip staff were fully supported by company and hostel/ coach and activity leaders. Definately a trip to repeat- if flight times allow, scope to extend into a visit to Bergen town, or HEP power station (to tie in with year 8 geography curriculum). (June 2023 - Secondary School)

Large groups accommodated in sister hotel, has a bar which is open to the public till 2am so be mindful of this. It was quiet bar though so only a couple of members of the public. Breakfast (buffet, good choice and quality), packed lunch (okay - piece of fruit, water and ham/ salami sub roll), dinner - pasta starter, meat and fried potato main course and cake desert - main course poor quality, small portions. Service good, remember to book dinner times early to get ahead of other groups. No where to fill up water bottles which was an issue, staff got really cross when students were filling bottles up from their large water bottles. (June 2023 - Secondary School)

Iceland trip reflections/ feedback Forms sent out to staff and student participants for feedback are overwhelmingly positive! Medical- Staff took responsibility for own small groups and checked on medication provision; no issues at airport.All meds returned to students for return flight and parents collected them from airport. 6 students vomited and rehydration gatorade and salt rehydration treatments were offered. All students need to be clear about how to contact staff at night if needed- staff room numbers were shared with students (group B) Dietary and Alergies No epipen emergency occurred. Play flight attendant gave clear notification to passengers on both flights- helpful and important. Dietary needs and requests were met by all guesthouses but we rather basic. Concern as both guesthouses had peanut butter on breakfast table until Hastings staff requested they removed it urgently. Educational visits ALL EXCELLENT especially Glacier walk Next time try to also include Lava Show- highly recommended by guide Marta Food Lunches- Good evening meals Good sandwiches were made by students however some flagged as too basic Accommodation Some confusion with group A room student room allocations in both venues and this was challenging to organise after later night arrial. (Check what went wrong here with Discover) Guesthouse was very kind to wash clothes of sick students Clean and warm and excellent Guide and Driver All very good and professional raport with students. Flights Play- seat allocations better on return but airport check in was very busy. Flight attendants gave passenger announcement to reduce allergy risk. Luggage handlers left one student bag back in Madrid and other broke wheel on student case- claims being made. Phones review for 6th form- nokia substitute for emergency? Communications with parents- Descriptions for parent comms each day were difficult to write after long study days – good to write theses in advance. Taking students pones at night worked well but some disgruntlement form yr 13/12 in A group. Reminder for next time to tell students not to overpack- sme brought too much luggage…however some brought too little (hats, gloved)- we e were lucky with weather but it could have been a big risk as some students were not in warm enough clothes for greater cold conditions! Remember to encourage students not to buy more new clothing- encourage sharing pre trip. Not to consider next trip- Yr 10s with older student were subject to diff expectations- this was sometimes hard to manage by older students in group A (November 2022 - Secondary School)

Excellent communication with the company, who worked very hard to ensure that the visit was suitable for the student we took in the wheelchair. The only disappointment with them was their lack on control on the finances where they issued a bill which was significantly under the amount it should have been and was only corrected when the trip leader discussed this with them. (April 2019 - Secondary School)

Issues with airport transfer on last day which was late - nobody contactable on the emergency number so had to sort the issues out myself. Other than this - excellent - especially coach driver and guide (April 2018 - Secondary School)
